Offered for auction is another treasure from my inlaws estate. An Antique German Stiegel Glass Enamel Brides Bottle or Flask. Enameled with Love Birds, Hearts and Flowers in authentic Folk Art tradition. This Flask originally accompanied by shot glasses but they have since been misplaced. The flask or bottle measures approximately 6 3/4" tall. Is 2 3/4"wide, and 1 3/4"deep. Original pewter collar and cap; there is a cork that has slipped down into the bottle. As you can see from the pictures the flask is somewhat lopsided. Probably due to the hand glass blowing technique. Otherwise, in great antique condition. Antique Stiegel Type 3-sided Glass Perfume Decanter Bottle Hand Painted Enamel
Up for auction is an unusual antique Stiegel type three sided perfume bottle or decanter with hand applied enamel scenes reminiscent of Pennsylvania Dutch farm life. This bottle has never been used. And has been stored in a cabinet at my family's Maryland farmhouse for generations. It cleaned up beautifully; the thick layer of dust must have kept the colors from fading. This old piece is very heavy, and makes a lovely noise like fine crystal when tapped. The stopper is very unique, with a large, controlled release bubble at its core. There is a gold"8" on the base. The glass bottle is in fantastic shape, with no chips or cracks noted. The stopper has a few chips& fleabites, but is still lovely. This is a vintage reproduction of a Stiegel bottle from the famous Henry Stiegel glass works of the 18th century. It is hand blown amethyst colored glass with a pontil on the bottom. It is marked MMA. Also on the bottom. It was purchased by my Mom from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC some years ago in the late 1960’s. Please see the explanation below from the internet: A fine vintage reproduction of a Stiegel-type bottle or flask. This example has a vertical or pillar optic in the glass and is a beautiful. Dark amethyst color. It was made in the 1960s by Pairpoint Glass for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This little cobalt blue blown pattern molded smelling salts bottle was made in America c. 1770 and is very similar to those pictured in American Glass by George S and Helen McKearin(plate 240) It is 3 7/8" long x 1 1/4" wide x 1/2" thick. It is in beautiful overall condition with a very tiny chip at the lip and some tiny chips on the ribs of the spirals(what I would consider very light wear for something that is 250 years old) This piece came to me several years ago from a collector of cobalt glass. Antique Quilted Etched Blown Glass Chestnut Flask Early American Stiegel ?
Beautiful antique etched or engraved( quilted blown glass chestnut flask. I am not sure if this is a Stiegel flask or not. But it sure does look pretty! Great base wear, great looking pontil. I haven't found any chips, not even flea bites. There is some kind of something on the lip, I believe this occurred during the manufacturing process, it's little worn areas, little striations that are too consistently present to be damage. There are some scratches on the body, but these are somewhat minimal, you have to look close to find them, but they are there. Great clarity of the glass as you can tell from the photo of it being held to the sun. There is a slight patina to it as well, minimal hazing, but some is present. Could use a cleaning, there is some grit that has collected in the little crevices of the etched areas. 18th Century Stiegel Type Glass Flask Bottle w/ Enamel Painted Horse German
This is a free blown Stiegel-type pocket flask. It is in a chestnut form with enamel decoration of a trotting horse. On the reverse is the German verse"Es Bluhe der Ackerstand" The flask has a rough pontil with a slight base kick-up. It has striations all over the glass from the blowing process. Squiggles and curvy lines and bubbles. None broken. The bottle has no condition problems, plenty of wear on the base. There is a cloudy place in the bottom, very minor, looks like it would wash out. The flask is 5.5" x 4.125" It dates from the late eighteenth century to the early nineteenth.

Blown glass with ground pontil. Decanter has superb wheel cut etched decoration on all four sides. Retains its original silver cork filled stopper which is hand chased and features a wonderful top of figural flowers. Elaborate etched decoration including oval cartouches with doves, floral bouquet, and leaf garland indicates this may have been a wedding presentation gift.The wheel cut etching suggests an expert hand and is quite sophisticated and possesses amazing depth and finesse. It has one small chip on the edge of the upper lip(6th image) and there is a very short stable line on the edge of the base rim from a bruise it sustained that is limited to the base edge and does not travel up a side or on the base(2nd image, upper left side) otherwise, there are no other chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines or evidence of grinding. I cannot say whether these are specifically Stiegel flasks or Low Country imports since to my knowledge they are indistinguishable. Two are wholly identical in motif and colors while the third shows a building or a church with a dove flying above it. As my pictures show(see especially picture 7) One of the flasks has considerable residue inside which I've made no attempt to clean, while another has a 1" hairline running from the pewter collar to the enameled collar as shown in my last picture.
