The bottle is a great greenish color and of typical squat form. The bottle is in perfect condition. With no chips or breakage, and only very light surface scratching. The glass has lots of small and large bubble and some sand inclusions typical of glass of the period, with a deep punt and a clear pontil mark on the underside. This bottle was apparently found in a dig. The bottle measures about 5 3/4 inches in diameter at the widest part of the body and stands 7 inches high. A superb crude rare olive/green Dutch/English pipe blown onion/squat pontil bottle with stretch marks and lots of bubbles some even with stretching. Applied ring with sheared top and little white specs of slag through out. Difficult to find such a bottle with so much crudeness. Truly a rare specimen for the colonial bottle collector and uncleaned unpolished. There are No chips, No cracks, and No repairs. There are some scratches around sides and wear to bottom as you would aspect. Pontil mark is very clean. Bottle measures 6.75 inches tall by 5 inches wide. 18th Century Antique Reproduction Onion Bottle
Really cool reproduction onion bottle! It stands right under 8" tall. And is 5" wide. It has a pontil mark and some base wear. There are tons of bubbles including a lot of seed bubbles running up the neck. I am not sure who made this, but supposedly glass blowers at Jamestown made some reproductions. This might be one of those. It has the letters'JMJ' embossed within a circle on the body of the bottle. There are also little grooves running around the bottle. The mouth opening is 1/2" wide. There is a ring right below the mouth. The glass wall thickness is a little over 1/8" thick. I do not detect very much damage on this bottle, if any at all. Could use a cleaning to remove dust and such. I would not call this bottle mint, but it is very close. Please let me know if you have any questions! But there are 2 places were there was an elongated bubble or overlap in the glass when the piece was made(one on the bottom near the pontil and one inside at the shoulder. We present this Baroque period onion bottle. Possibly as old as the 1680's. This piece is in respectable survivor condition with no obvious cracks that I can tell- please see photos. It has a nice shape with thin walls and it displays beautifully. As can be seen in the photos t here is a pontil mark on the underside. It measures 7 inches tall and is in excellent condition. GREAT EXCAVATED PRIMITIVE ENGLISH/DUTCH 1600-1700'S BLACK GLASS ONION BOTTLE
For your consideration a neat primitive excavated Onion Bottle. I believe this is from the 1600-1700's. It is from my brother's personal collection. He was a well regarded glass collector and I've had this many years. As glass is not my forte. I have taken my photos and will leave it up to the experts to decide. I have taken pictures of all. So please use the magnification feature to get a closer look. The bottle stands 8 inches high and is about 5 and 1/2 inches across. It was dug up and is in very good condition for it's age. The color looks like a dark amber. But when held to the light displays a nice yellow hue. It features a rough pontil and what I believe is an applied lip. It appears to be free of chips or cracks although there is a slight bid of cloudiness to it. There are a few areas of roughness, as well as scratches ... moreand a few air bubble, one being large. Today, master glassblower John Shelton still practices the techniques of the past in this historic part of Virginia. Up for auction is a fine example of his wares: this deep green"onion" bottle. Individually blown and shaped from lead-free molten glass in the manner of the 18th century. The touchmark at the shoulder bears the postmark from Williamsburg's first post office.
