It stands 14.5" tall and 6" in diameter at the base. It will hold 128 liquid ounces(or 2 gallons) What has come to be a decorative item. The technique of wrapping the wine bottles in wicker actually came from necessity because early versions of wine bottles produced in Italy were quite fragile and thus wrapped in straw, wicker or leather baskets to protect them during shipping. The word fiasco in Italian means flask or bottle, but it morphed into failure when cheap glass was used, resulting in breakage. Truly, a real fiasco. I messaged a couple experts and they believe it to be late 1800's to early 1900's in age. It may be an old demijohn or Bonbonne or possibly a large inkwell? Measures: Aprox. 6" tall Base 6" diameter Neck is just under 2" tall& 1 3/4" OD Beautiful jade green tones lighter at the top and gradually gets darker towards the base. Antique FRENCH WICKER DEMIJOHN BOTTLE- GREEN GLASS. The quintessential French Country look! Offered is this Antique French woven wicker demijohn bottle probably 19th century. The bottle is a light green glass. Demijohns were used to age. Transport, or store alcohol and other liquids. The Demijohn is made of green colored blown glass and encased in basket-weave, hand-woven wicker The Demijohn is in Very Good Condition with the wicker casing aged to a lovely patina. A few small breaks on the wicker- see photos) but handle is secure as well as bottom which many times separates from the body. Demijohn measures 14-1/2 inches high x 6 1/4 inches wide not including the handle. Definition according to Wikipedia: Demijohn" is an old word that formerly referred to any glass vessel with a large body and small neck. Enclosed in wickerwork. Here is what I know for sure-it's green glass inside a old wicker basket. I know I really love this piece and that my family has had it for a long time. I have seen this forever and really never have it much thought until I pulled it out of storage So you may know everything there is to know simply by looking at the photos. I honestly didn't know a thing so I did some goggle research and what I have decided is that this is indeed an old green glass and wicker carboy or demijohn with corks and a spigot or tap spout. I'm guessing it may be rare and or a great piece. I had no idea there was so much to learn and I don't have the time to become an expert so I ofer a really interesting piece to you and ill let you decide or ask questions after I give you some info and photos. Magnificent Huge Antique/Vintage Kidney Shaped Demijohn Carboy Bottle - c.1920's
Originally encased in wicker(see picture#2) Is this c. 1920's kidney shaped demijohn or carboy bottle that is massive measuring 20 1/2 inches tall, 13 1/2 inches wide, and approximately 9 to 10 inches deep. It weighs 12 pounds, 3 ounces. The piece is also marked at the lip with a"D" and"20L" which I assume means 20 liters(over 5 gallons) It is light green in color but when out in the sun. It takes on almost a rainbow of colors, and a blue hue as well. It is hand blown, and there are numerous bubbles throughout. There are no cracks, chips, etc. that I could find. I did wash with a hose, did the best I could, but there is still a little bit of gunk left on the inside bottom. I had researched this piece with some Bottle Collectors I know. And it was concluded this piece was made in about the 1920's. It does have seams ... moreon each side although not like newer seams that you can feel. They are sort of inverted, and as history shows us, these were made from anywhere from 2 to 4 parts. And there is one around the bottom so it appears this piece was made in 3 pieces. The origin could not be concluded but one Collector thought this may be French. Please note that this piece will weigh about 16 to 18 pounds shipped. Once packaged. This listing is for an antique European Glass large wine bottle/carboy/demi john. This bottle is double dipped with two distinct layers. Neck is applied and has 4 rings but is definitely not for a screw on cap. The neck is slim and body bulbous with a push up base that rises 1 1/2” The bottle is two mold. The top and bottom are both ground and polished. This bottle is very thick about 3/8” thick at the top. The glass of the bottle is clear with a very very light lavender tint. The glass is wavy to the touch. There is an applied Opaque Satin glass(lalique-type) cameo seal on the front of the body of the bottle. The satin glass is iridescent in light. It depicts a profile of a woman with a scarf around her hair and tied at the nap of her neck. She has on a peasant blouse. There is an additional circle that starts at the base of her neck and ... moregoes over her head. Refer to photos. The seal is raised about ¼” The bottle is from Europe but maker is unknown to this seller. Age is unknown to this seller. This bottle weighs 6 pounds. Hard to find.Old CRISA Bottle Clear Glass Made in Mexico Terrarium. 12" tall jar bottle was used for a terrarium and has a hole in side for easy access. It has chippiness around the inside where the 4" hole was cut. But the hole opening itself is smooth. This chippiness is normal and common to these bulbous bottles when the glass was cut. Widest part of jar is 12" diameter x 12" tall. Bottle has a few straw marks on it made during mfg. Original cork is retained.there is some wear to the cork. Bottle weighs over 8 lbs. unwrapped. Living in Europe for 4 years helped me acquire way more than one girl needs. I am happy that I can share all of these treasures here. These are from my personal collection and are top quality antiques that I personally purchased. This is a demi john with a basket woven around it. The glass is clear and it still has its cork. This was how wine was stored long ago. You would take your own containers to the winery to get refills. This is 15 inches tall and approx 12 inches in diameter. It is in good used condition. There is one woven strand on the basket that is broken. You can see it in the third picture.

Up for auction is a 6" demijohn bottle I have had laying around trying to figure out what to do with it. Today is the day to send it down the road for someone else. As stated. It is about 6" in height missing a cap. The wicker appears to be in pretty good condition with the exception of a few breaks on the top cover and the little wicker ring that holds the top to the handle is broken but attached. Otherwise, pretty good. The wicker is brown in color with a deeper brown for accent.

You are viewing a massive 25 ltr. antique demijohn that I purchased while on a business trip in Bavarian Germany last year. Actually. I purchased several and have listed two here on eBay. This one is an awesome deep green glass with the distinct air bubble effect only aged blown glass has. The unique part of this bottle is the molded volume size. The only one I've seen like it. The bottle is in need of cleaning inside. It had dried wine still in the bottom when purchased. It is in excellent condition for its age with no cracks, or breaks and with all the bubbles and ripples you expect to see. It stands aprox 23" high and is 44" around at it's widest point. I listed this as having a German origin but, could easily be Austrian or, Italian based on local. For auction is this fantastic antique demijohn bottle. The bottle measures 10 inches long. The bottle has bubbles and other inclusions in the glass. The bulbous you best and don't on even from where it was blown. There's a little roughness at the rim but no cracks or chips. The bottle has some dirt and marking from having water in it. This is a pre 1900s large Demijohn bottle. It is hand blown with a great crude pontil mark on the base. It has stretched bubbles throughout as shown in the pictures. The demensions are as follows: 19 inches tall from base to lip 15 inches wide 44 inches circumference This bottle is a jewel in aqua blue and is in excellent condition. There is one very small chip on the top which is shown in the pictures. I do not know the specific history of this bottle, when I aquired the bottle the wicker was aged, discolored and falling apart so I discarded the wicker and unveiled this beauty. It has been inside my home ever since and has been used as a vase for silk flowers, it makes a unique piece for interior decoration and is a relic of a time gone. Rare demijohn loaf bread 1800's pontil glass bottle, wicker case
This is an 1800's. Rare, crudely- made, large greenish-blue loaf bread, demijohn, pontil glass bottle with applied lip and short neck. I am not sure if the cork is original but it appears to be old. Wax is attached to the neck. Unfortunately I am unable to see the full bottle because of the wicker, which I will not remove-that will be up to the new owner. We have carefully examined the bottle(in this limited capacity) and there are no chips or cracks-in fact I would say it is in excellent condition, but I am not an expert. You can see small bubbles and what appears to be a crease or smooth fold in the neck(not a crack) all part of the crude manner in which it was made. The bottle is approximately 7 3/4" tall, 9 5/8" long, and 6 3/8" wide. There is a pontil mark(like a belly button) at the bottom. The wicker is in very good ... morecondition, and the handles are firmly attached. This is a beautiful bottle and a great addition to the collector. If this bottle is not as I described and if you are not happy with your purchase I will refund your money if you return the bottle within 5 days of receipt and in the EXACT SAME CONDITION that you received it. Antique 19th or earlier 20th century hand blow glass bottle. Hand made. Item in ok condition. The sides have some scratching. The top has some stress fractures, but is stable. The insides of the bottle has residue stains of some kind. There is museum wax on the bottom to help keep it in place. Has a stable base. Doesn't wabble. This item was likely used for storing liquids on a vessel. This item comes from the collection of the Museum of Monterey- Stanton Center. Located in the heart of the Monterey Bay. Antique Vintage Large 25" Green Glass Demijohn Italy Wine Bottle Jug
A large green glass demijohn carboy bottle. I believe it is hand blown due to the air bubbles it has as well as that is is not perfectly even. It does have bubbles through out the glass. But it is in good condition. It is not cracked or chipped. There is a marking near the top of the bottle that is very hard to read but appears to say"invem" Item is approx 25 to 26 inches tall. Rare and beautiful Demijohn bought at an estate sale in Vermont. Glass is mouth blown and is aqua marine. The color sets the time period to New England ca.1815- 1855. Based on research done on internet and Bottles Historical Society) Ovoid shape with cork. Weighs apprx. 24lbs. 26"inches TALL. NECK- 8.5"inches around. Widest part of bottle 57"inches. Basket is woven wicker with wood bottom(inside original wildflower and grass? Basket top is 19"inches diameter bottom and 3.25"diameter inches top opening. Bottom is 21.5" diameter opening with a 17.25 bottom diameter. There are stretch marks and bubles in the glass. NO CHIPS or CRACKS. RARE. EXCELLENT CONDITION! Antique Green Glass Demijohn Bottle - wine bottle - fermenting bottle
This listing is for one very nice Antique Green Glass Demijohn Bottle. It is marked V. Ayelense and 1 G on the lip. Looks like it is blown in a mold. It is really unique in that the glass not only contains numerous air bubbles. But even what looks like pieces of cork actually embedded in the glass- see last photograph where I tried to get a close up of one piece that is significantly larger than the rest(approximately 1/4 of an inch) I can see two other tiny flecks. The color is outstanding, gorgeous green. I can also see a slight swirl of goldish color in the neck, that looks like it is in the glass.
