It measures 16" by 9" by 4 1/2" The exotic wood veneer(possibly ... moremahogany) has a very dramatic and variable grain that ranges from amber to black. The exquisite top features a radiant Mother of Pearl Cartouche( 2" by 1" with no engravings or markings) It has eight Mother of Pearl Discs that are positioned near the corners. The discs are connected by pewter'stringing lines' to form two rectangles on the top. I believe that the two shortest pewter'stringing lines' on the ends of the inner rectangle may be replacement pieces. There are also four Mother of Pearl discs on the front of the box. Connected by pewter'stringing lines' These also form a rectangle. The escutcheon has an inlay that is a bone color. But does not appear to be Mother of Pearl. The top opens to reveal a green velvet fabric-covered writing slope which appears to be original. There are five separate compartments for ink wells. Nibs, wax, stamps etc. There is also a removable concave pen tray with storage space beneath it. The green velvet-covered'top partition' pulls down with a black grosgrain tab to expose a storage compartment. The storage compartment measures 14 1/4" by 7 1/4" For stationary. The green velvet-covered'bottom partition' pulls open with a black grosgrain tab to expose a storage compartment. This storage compartment measures 14 1/4" by 5" For letters. The hinges and fittings are brass and there is a flush brass handle on each end of the box. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form nearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. Today you can go anywhere in the entire world within 24 hours by plane. Just think way back when before commercial airlines. People traveled primarily by railroad or by ship. Traveling was long, hard, and exhausting. People would literally live out of these trunks as they traveled for weeks and sometimes months on end. Thus. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried in the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. Antique 1916 Mahogany Dresser / Dressing Table / Vanity with Mirror
THIS ITEM IS FOR LOCAL PICKUP IN IRWIN. PA 15642 ONLY. NO SHIPPING. Antique vanity/ dresser/ dressing table with mirror. The finish is a dark brown. As shown in the pictures. The facing is missing in a couple places. The mirror has two side mirrors that fold in and out. It has 5 drawers; each drawer has a lock mechanism that looks like it accepts the old style skeleton keys, but I don't have a key for it. The size is about 20 inches deep, 44 inches wide, and 59 inches high. Although I can't tell what they mean, there are several markings on it. Stamped into the wood on the back are the numbers 4474 and 57. 4474 seems like it was important to the manufacturer, because it is in 3 separate places. The mirror is very delicately attached to the dresser. I took the wooden back panel off the mirror to see how it was attached and figure out ... morehow to make it more sturdy, and discovered that the back of the mirror is stenciled with the date June 13, 1916 and an"N" and a"P" which may be the mirror manufacturer's logo. On the inside of the wooden back panel are the words"4474 Mahogany" hand written in cursive pencil. The number"48-88" is stenciled inside the back panel also. 4474 Mahogany Toilet" is also hand written in pencil inside one of the left hand drawers, along with what looks to be the"48-88" again. I looked online but couldn't find information on what these numbers mean or where the vanity came from(or how much it's really worth) I also don't know if"Mahogany" is meant to be the color of the finish, or the type of wood it's made of. The mirror doesn't come off for transportation. It is attached only with 4 screws through the wood mirror frame into the desk part. Which is why the center mirror rocks back and forth a little when the vanity is moved. It could be braced more securely but I don't want to put more screws into it, the new owner can do that. This is a lovely 1950's hard rock maple antique dresser- chest of drawers. This vintage dresser is turqoise with a chocolate glaze and slightly distressed. The top of the dresser is a beautiful English chestnut finish. The chest of drawers measures 30" wide x 30" tall x 18" deep. There are three dresser drawers. The top dresser drawer is shallow and the two bottom drawers are deep. The dresser hardware is painted antique brass metallic. All original hardware is included except on the top drawer as one of the original dresser drawer pulls was missing. It was pulled from my great-grandparents' house in North Carolina many decades ago and kept at my grandmother's. The bar underneath the mirror indicates that it was used to hold a towel. This dresser might have been useful for holding a water pitcher and bowl before most folks even had running water in their homes. Wheels were added to the bottom for ease of use. This special piece is still quite functional. The mirror is really neat- it swings easily fowards and backwards via hinges. One can tell the glass in the mirror is really old. The two drawer fronts have brass plates with ring pulls, and are painted with a foliage design. The whole thing has a great distressed patina, just enough to have that great vintage look. The old mirror is backed with a small plank and there are three finials in the frame, as well as two on the uprights. The dresser measures approx. 10.5" wide by 15" tall and 6" deep. One of the drawers has been lovingly restored. And the mirror shows its age with some dark patches in the silvering; please see the photos for the extent. Antique Vintage Vtg. Dresser Bureau Vanity Beveled Mirror Serpentine Tiger Oak ~
Beautiful Turn of the Century American Oak Dresser Up for your consideration: A wonderful example of fine artistry by American Furniture Makers. This beautiful dresser was purchased at an old estate auction and although a lot of items came from Germany. This belonged to a couple of sisters who moved here from Germany. I am pretty sure they probably purchased it here in America rather than bringing it with them. It does resemble typical American Oak Dressers of the time period- I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of the 1900-1920's. They were quite up in years and the dresser was quite old when they purchased it and I found an Old Catholic Confirmation Certificate(in English) dated 1910 rolled up with what appeared to be an old Marriage License(in German) The lovely Beveled Mirror is in Excellent condition for its age and is framed ... morein a the beautiful Victorian tradition. Beveled Mirror attached well and swivels up or down. The Drawers feature the Grand Serpentine style. The drawers all lock and of course the original skeleton key is included. I am not sure however if the dresser’s knobs are original or not. The Dresser features the rare and beautiful Tiger Oak Construction. Quarter Sawn) The drawers are all in pretty fine condition. One drawer seems to want to go in further than it should but could be easily remedied. There is also a chip in the front edge of one of the left drawers. 1880's Antique Child's/Doll Salesman Sample Dresser W/Framed Mirror.Excellent!
This is a miniature or salesman sample of a dresser that is probably from the 1880's. It is well made from oak. It measures 16" tall. 10" wide and 6" deep. It has 3 drawers that have dovetail construction.There is a swivel mirror 5.5"x 6" in a fluted frame. The top of the frame has wooden dowels in the corners. It is in perfect condition with no marks. Chips or problems that I can see. One drawer inside has a crack but no separation. On the bottom drawer is a sticker with copperplate writing that says'Doll's bureau. Belonged& used by the four Lundberg girls. Now on 9/13/75 probably about 88 years old. Given to Peggy for her birthday 9/30/75" Perfect for dolls or bears. Doll not included. Antique Wooden Washstand Cabinet w/ Towel Bar, 3 Drawers w/ Brass Locks and Key
You are bidding on an antique wooden washstand from a convent. We don't know the age or the type of wood. It has a nice light oak look finish. It is very well made and has alot of carved detail on the front drawers and door. Each drawer has a working lock. The one key fits all locks. The key is not original to the piece but is of that time period. We are not sure if the front pulls or rollers are original to the piece. As you can see in the picture. The holes for the front pulls match up with the original holes in the drawers. There is a slight loss of finish in one spot on the backsplash. There is also finish loss on top of the towel bar where the damp towel would have hung. The washstand measures 48 inches tall from towel bar to floor. It is 30 inches wide x 16 3/4 inches deep. Art deco charles rennie mackintosh inspired welsh dresser. Well after much pondering we have decided to sell our family dresser. It was bought by my father in the late 1960's from auction and has been in our family ever since. For the last 10 years it has been in storage and we have now awaken it from its slumber. Trust me, if we could fit it into our house or our relations house it would not being sold, it is just too large for Mr Average's house, which of course makes it much more exclusive. These were in big demand in the 1960's and 1970's but then wained but now there is a resurgence for those that have the space to display them as they should be displayed. OK the bad points(not many! One of the doors does not close due to being stored on a slight slope, this is easily fixed by wedging the body over time or sanding down ... morethe edge of the door(a few millimeters is all that is required) One door is locked and the key is missing but its in our house somewhere and was taken down with the dresser happy to send it on once we find it(bizzare- we have this since the 60's and in the last furlong we loose the key! thats about it everything else looks ok apart from the od scratch here and there and some wood split of a hairline nature. The original mirror fixing screws are still present and come with the mirror. The mirror part is detached for the pictures. Which are not great as it was difficult to photograph in our garage(Steve McQueen is not for sale neither is the handsome chap reflected in the mirror! It is still very dusty but will come up fantastic with some proper cleaning and wood cleaning treatment. thats about it really. Its a sad day for me and short of buying a bigger house there is no way of keeping it. The body is 5 feet long x 2 feet deep x 3 feet 4 inches high. The mirror part is 5 feet long. 8 inches deep and 3 feet 4 inches high. This makes it 6 feet 8 inches high when assembled. Vintage Kitchen Dresser Painted in Annie Sloan Beautiful vintage welsh dresser made from oak and lovingly hand painted in Annie Sloan- French Linen. A fabulous solid piece with some wonderful detailing. It has been distressed in areas of natural wear as we think t his adds an extra dimension to the piece and highlights the pieces unique features. It has then been finished with natural wax to increase durability. A wonderful piece with all the attributed you'd expect. The top work surface has been stripped and given several coats of danish oil to bring out the true colour and grain of the wood. This also crets an amazing contrast against the painted woodwork. The bottom is made up of a two drawers and a large single cupboard perfect for storing just about anything. The dresser top ha s been finished in a tongue and groove style and has ... morea generous shelve with a rebated trough making it ideal for displaying plates. The very top of the dresser has a beveled top edge and a canopy with a decorative carved design across it and the side pillars have been finished with a smart waved edge. The doors themselves have have a decorative beveled framework creating four panels on each. The side pillars on this bottom section and the central panel between the doors has been decorated with a vertical rebated stripe design. This design is continued across the drawers fronts as is the design from the top canopy. The piece sits on four very chunky refectory style legs complete with classic peg detail. The look is completed with the original decorative medieval style swing handles and back plates. Would sit equally comfortably in a lounge. Dinning room or kitchen- so versatile! Equally at home in a period property or a modern home with an eclectic edge.
