Nicks, scratches, rubbing and wear commensurate with age and use. via CircaCalifornia- Rancho Monterey furniture or also known as Monterey style furniture was created by Mason Manufacturing Company of Los Angeles in 1929 and marketed by Barker Brothers. The style was rustic. Which fit the ... morecharacter of the Spanish Revival Architecture and Rancho style homes. The Monterey line was initiated by an interior decorator. Who saw a piece in a movie set and believed that there was a need for a furniture line that accompanied the Spanish or Mission Style homes being built in the area. Frank and George Mason made the initial design sketches. In late 1929 they started the Monterey furniture line. Twenty four designs were part of the initial run. And this expanded to about 120 different pieces within four years. There were at least three different bedroom sets. Six dining room sets, sixteen different upholstery pieces. Sixteen end tables, occasional and coffee tables, and four different desks and secretaries. The lumber was chiefly alder from Oregon that was run through multiple drum sanders to ease the edges and provide an antique or rustic look. The pieces were glued and laminated with a hot glue. Up for sale is a signed Monterey 5 drawer dresser with tile in the top. Tiles are Tudor. 6x6- the dresser is in good condition with nice patina. It has the normal bumps and scratches but as you can see it is really nice looking and presents well. Iron straps on the feet- nice scroll at the top and iron handles. Corbels in the front add nicely to this piece. Shipping will not be cheap but if you live in CA I can possibly deliver it for a fee. You can come pick it up at my shop as well. This is an Antique Hard Wood& Paneling. Dresser with Tabletop Vanity Mirror that Swivels, 70 inches tall. Made in USA. Has 6 dovetail drawers without the key to the locks. Top drawers have original porcelain knobs. The other drawer pulls are newer reproductions. Some of the dovetail corners were glued and set with masking tape(old repair holding fine) Mirror frame has a small crack in the back that doesn't show from the front. Should be an easy repair. Siverback mirror was very blotchy and replaced with a new mirror. Dresser sides are constructed with wood panels and have some general wear. Finish is still smooth. Wheels are original wood caster and working. Back was left untouched with remnants of the original white wash paint. Estimate age is 1920's- 30's. Circa late 1920's.spectacular solid maple Shaker/Craftsman style chest of drawers It was love at first sight when I saw this wonderful classic chest of drawers at an estate sale. It was in need of much love and attention! I knew it had the makings for greatness. This is a first class dresser all the way. It is made from solid maple. Not veneers.The solid maple knobs are fantastic as you can easily see, they are all original other than 1 which was missing, I had a master wood turner make an exact replica of an existing knob. the detailed turnings are rare& beautiful. The back panel on the chest is new.The chest has 2 upper drawers and 4 lower drawers.I restored each drawer by taking them apart. Then regluing and clamping.I custom made many drawer glides and runners. The drawers feature dovetail joinery at all four corners.The drawer ... moresides are made of solid maple 9/16" thick, that is virtually unheard of quality in a dresser made today. One of the finest features of this dresser is the beautiful maple with all of its beauty marks and lovely natural grains including some birdseye. Tiger graining and other beautiful figuring.There are also some darker brown areas which add to the look and character. There are some age related shrinkage cracks(non-structural) in the lower portion of the side panels.approx, 4-5" long. I think they add great aged character to the piece. The maple pegs in the top and on the lower front skirt trim are an awesome quality detail. This"diamond in the rough" was hidden under a very worn opaque finish. It had a brown tinted laquer finish(popular in its day) which hid all of the lovely grain you see now.I chose to showcase the natural maple wood and pegs.I hand rubbed many. Many coats of varnish on this dresser giving it a wonderful look, bringing out the lovely wood grains, providing wonderful depth and protecting the wood. Of course like any fine antique. Vintage 1930s Joerns Bros Dresser and Highboy This listing is for one dresser and one"highboy" from the 1930s. Manufactured by Joerns Bros. Only two owners within the same family! The furniture is in very good shape, and is made from fine quality woods, I believe hickory and cedar. The units are strong and sturdy, no structural problems. There are some nicks and scuffs on most surfaces, but nothing too major. The tops of the units are very clean, except for one minor water ring. The front of the dresser has a blemish, see photos. These would be perfect for vintage furnishing as they are, or excellent candidates for refinishing. The drawer handles may be bakelite. They are a bit dirty, but if removed and properly cleaned, they will look amazing.
