There is nothing left out… from the hunt to the descriptive scenes depicting the gruesomeness of how the carcass is processed. Gutted and left in its ravaged state. Gruesome as cutting-in may seem to most of us, unaccustomed as we are to the scenes that unfold daily in slaughterhouses and aboard commercial fishing vessels, it was really nothing more than whale-scale butchery—certainly not the kind of thing any hunter, especially one who had just gone through all the trouble and gore of killing a whale, would cringe at. But trying-out, the process of boiling oil from the stripped blubber, was another story. Working around the clock in six-hour shifts for one to three days(depending on the size of the whale killed) The crew kept the two giant copper cauldrons of the try-works burning, tossing in hunks of blubber and barreling the gallons and gallons of oil they rendered. Almost every whaling memoir contains some stomach-turning account of this process. Melville's highly poetic version is quoted in the film, but Charles Nordhoff's 1856 Whaling and Fishing. Vintage Rayo Brass Oil Lamp Early 1900s Electrified
This is a brass kerosene Rayo lamp that has been converted to electric and works just fine. The Rayo lamp was first patented in 1894. Made by Bradley and Hubbard for Standard Oil who owned the trademark name"Rayo" At one time, these lamps were given away free to boost the sale of kerosene. Bradley and Hubbard's lamps were also sold to other retailers with royalties paid to Standard Oil(now Exxon) for the use of the Rayo name. Measuring 13 inches tall and 6 inches wide across the base. This vintage Rayo lamp has a few small dents, a larger one on the back(see photos) and does come with the metal collar with prongs to hold a glass shade in place.

Monumental Pair of Marbro Table Lamps in white porcelain, circa 1960.
DESCRIPTION*PLEASE READ ENTIRE LISTING* Up for your consideration today is an extraordinarily elegant and original pair of monumental table lamps in the Chinoiserie/Hollywood Regency style from the late 1950's or early 1960's. They measure an astounding 46" in height overall and are 10" in diameter at their widest point. The Blanc de Chine bodies are overpainted in genuine gold and depict a trailing blossom and vine motif; each one resting on a carved wooden lotus base with gold leaf finish. Each lamp employs a white glass diffuser at the top which supports the shade(not included) and hides the oversized 300w bulb from view. These bulbs utilize a 3 way switch that can be set at 100. 200 and 300 watts respectively. Line switches are included on each cord. The lotus base is 3" high, the porcelain body is 21" and ... morethe neck and diffuser together are 22" in height. Original Marbro labels are affixed to the metal neck of each lamp just below the diffuser. CONDITION These amazing lamps are in near perfect condition and show the minimal wear of a well cared for item that is 50+ years old. The porcelain is perfect with no visible chips or imperfections. One of the glass diffusers has a small chip on its neck which is hidden from view when installed on the lamp. The gold leaf bases exhibit a few minor scuff marks. See photos for details. VTG TILSO Black Faced Clown Finger Lamp/Oil/Kerosene Lamp made in Japan
This vintage piece is about 9" tall and the base about 3 3/4" in diameter. It is hand painted with a black clown face. There is some chipping of the paint. Especially around the top where the burner attaches to the base, also some on the face(see photos) The wheel turns the wick up and down. The chimney has some bubbles in it. The burner is stuck to the base by glue or paint. I had another one of these that I was able to free, but this caused more paint chipping. This item was imported from Japan by TILSO, part of the New York City based company of L. Batlin and Son. Both base and chimney are free from chips, cracks and repairs. Vintage Boudoir Vanity Lamp: Pottery, Porcelain, Marble, Cream Color, Unusual
Although I think this little lamp was originally a vanity lamp. It would be adorable almost anywhere especially a bathroom or baby's room. It came from an estate where many of the pieces dated to as early as the late 1800s but I am guessing this is circa 1920s-1930s. It is small, only measuring about 9-1/8" to the top of the bulb receptacle. The footed stepped base is 4" square. I find this lamp particularly unusual in that the hollow base seems to be ceramic, or pottery; the round top with raised star designs around the circumference, porcelain and the small decorative donut shaped piece in the middle is, I think, marble. The metal parts look like brass but are not. They are likely iron. The cloth cord and plug are the originals. I would consider it dangerous to even plug it in so it obviously has not been tested and needs ... morerewiring. There is heavy crazing. Most notable on the base but it almost looks like a pattern. There are also what I would call"crackles" four on the base, one obvious one on the ball and other less noticeable ones. They are not cracks but almost look like it. They add character and charm to this almost century old sweet little piece but some people may not appreciate that look. This is an estate piece being sold as is. I cannot guarantee that it has not been exposed to odors: smoking. Fragrance, cooking, mustiness, mothballs, other types of storage odors or pets. To avoid the expense of shipping. Oil Lamp Burners Height 90mm Diameter 85mm 40mm thread No makers name but ther is a R V and anchor logo on the wick adjuster which is the logo of an importer/ exportor in Bordeaux who was around from the 1880's There is also the number 20 on both wick tubes. We have come across this logo on a Hinks burner. Pair of burners with lifting mechanisms. Wick winders work fine. One burner has a hairline crack in the cone(see photo) The other has a couple of cracks on the cone and on the crown. Also shown in photos. There is also a collar screwed onto the thread which may need to be removed. Would take a chimney of 60mm One lovely wick included. Although this is not what my husband called it when he spent twenty minutes trying to re insert it!

The Antique Shade was found in San Juan Bautista, California. It was part of a hanging chandelier that came out of or was rescued from an old building there, we believe a bar. It is in very good to excellent'as found' condition. There are some very light black specs on the white bisque porcelain(see photos) There are no chips or cracks. Up for auction are a pair of antique beautiful floral parlor lamps. They are light pink and light green with purple flowers and dark green and light purple leaves. The lamps are absolutely beautiful and will decorate any living room or even bedroom. No matter where you put them they look beautiful. VINTAGE Striking and unique Attention getting table lamp. This is the one you have been looking for. Plaster. I believe, possibly an even more dense compound. Asian male wise man character stands on a rock base. He wears a long robe or cloak with extended sleeves and is red with a black belt and raised trim detail in gold color paint. He has a pill box style hat. Foo Man Chu type mustache and flops. VERY unique lamp shade in paper is red with attached black fringe all around. Shade is 20” across and about 11” tall. Fringe is 2” or so long. Firmly attached fringe all but one area I try to show in the pic. A very simple re-glue job. Character is 16” tall. Including the base he stands on. The lamp area is 23” to the top of the socket and with shade in place is over 30” tall. No plaster chips or repair. I note one small scratch as shown. Not ... moreeasy to spot. Arts& Crafts Hanging Ceiling Lamp Fixture This vintage chandelier lamp from the Arts& Crafts design era features a brass base with a large central globe(13" across) ringed by four hanging globes(5” x 4” so that the entire fixture is about 19 inches across. Each of the pendant globes. Held in place by the original set screws, connects to its own canopy which has the original friction key type switch. The strikingly beautiful salmon color frosted glass features a classic mission-era stenciled floral design. This is a lovely antique table lamp. It has a domed solid glass shade with reverse painted floral rose design. The base is very heavy like cast iron. The gold surface is worn off and it is rusting underneath. The shade has a chip and also some light chips or surface roughness on the rim. See my last photograph. Antique Chicago Arts & Crafts Reverse Painted Chipped Ice Lamp Anderon Foundry
This is a nice antique early 20th century I believe Chicago area reverse painted chipped ice lamp with ships at sea and a windmill by houses and has a mark shown in the final pic that is the Anderson Foundry mark which was a company based in Chicago that mostly made brass items and were active from 1906-1917. In pretty nice shape as the pics show with no nicks or chips to the main part of the shade but it does have some minor nicks like that seen to the underside of the shade throughout and comes exactly as shown. Fabulous Antique Handel Lamp Shade Hand Painted Signed Miller Juno Electric Lamp Presented is an antique Handel glass lamp shade and lamp. This lamp shade has been reverse painted with green on the inside and pink chrysanthemums on the outside. The flowers are beautifully done! The inside has a nice frosted pebbled finish. The top rim has a hand painted gilt border. The lamp is a oil lamp that was converted for electricity. The lamp has detailed scrollwork handles and feet. Also included is a hurricane glass. The lamp shade is Handel. Design 2554, and marked as such. The lamp is made by Edward Miller and is a third version Juno lamp, marked as such. These oil lamps were produced between 1895-1898. The hurricane is marked, Empire. This lamp is in excellent condition. The lamp shade has no cracks or damage. There are fleabites around the bottom ... morerim. Not visible when it is on the lamp. There is very minor paint and gilding loss. The three pieces fit together well. The lamp is in working condition(see photos) This is a beautiful lamp and would look wonderful in your home! It features windmills and houses, with an interesting pink background. It is especially well painted, and in excellent condition. There is some general roughness to the upper and lower rims, but this is due to the method of cutting, and are not chips or flaws. The paint is in excellent condition, free of scratches, chipped paint, or heat scorching. The base appears to be made of brass, and there is some age-related uneveness to the patina, but nothing distracting. The shade measures 7.5" in diameter, and the lamp is ready for immediate use. Vintage Art Deco Cylinder Hand Painted Scenic Original Boudoir Lamp!
Gorgeous antique painted scenic cylinder electric lamp(paint on outside of cylinder for scene-background colors possibly on the inside) The base appears to be a highly decorated metal base with gold paint. The top is also embossed. But doesn't appear to have any gold paint left and the finial may not be the original finial although it works. If it is the original, there was probably something in the center of the two"leaves" The lamp works great and there are no cracks or damage in the scenic reverse painted cylinder. The colors are fabulous! We tried to take the top off and weren't able to do so. Know it comes off since the light bulb has definitely been replaced more than once in this lovely lamp's lifetime. He studied at the Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Hammerborg started his carrier as a painter and. In 1949, he starts to work for Georg Jensen as a silversmith. In 1957 he becomes the head designer of Fog& Morup lighting company. Under the design leadership of Hammerborg, Fog& Mørup enjoyed its greatest successes, becoming one of the world’s leading lighting companies during the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to his own designs, Hammerborg coordinated the work of other designers such as Sophus Frandsen, Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup, Jørgen Bo, Erik Balslev, Karen and Ebbe Clemmensen, Sidse Werner, Hans Due and Peter Avondoglio.
