Large Figural Silver French Art Nouveau Victorian Newel Table Lamp Jewel Shades
Offered for your consideration is a fine silvered metal newel or table lamp formed by an art nouveau lady in a dramatic pose atop a graduated black marble plinth. I suspect that the base metal is spelter. Due to the weight, but perhaps it's pewter. The lamp is about 40" high by 18" wide and has three attached hammered silver shades with crimson red jeweled medallions at the tops and beautiful beaded fringe around the lower rims composed of a mixture of clear and red beads. I have not polished the lamp in the years I've owned it, as I liked the patina. The pictures make the lamp appear slightly more golden than it looks in person. That is probably because the reflective surface is picking up the color from the wallpaper and carpeting in the rooms where I took the pictures. The bottom said made in holland but they put my sold sticker over it and it peeled a little off(see pics) It is brass and crystal or glass with 3 pattern frosted look globe shades. Antique Bouillotte Double Arm Table Lamp with Adjustable Shades
This is wonderful. Working bouillotte table lamp. It has adjustable tole style shades that can go up and down on the middle shaft. The shades look to be a very, very dark blue or black. The bouillotte lamp was created to illuminate players during the game of bouillotte. A gambling card game, that was the precursor to poker. The base of the lamp was designed to hold game tokens. The central shaft holds the two light fixtures and the metal shades. The height of the shades can be adjusted by using the screw key that can lower or raise the shades. The height of the shade was lowered during the game to protect the player's eyes from glare. The lamp is electric with a good cord and works. I have not tried to clean the lamp. There are dents. Scratches and places where the plating has worn off. I believe the lamp is possibly brass, as it is heavy, ... morewith silver plating. I cannot say for sure.
