Condition: The map is in Very Good condition for its age with overall tonal aging and original handcoloring as issued. Blank on the reverse, printed on a strong flexible page, not brittle, basically as seen in the pics. There is some darkening around the edges and smudges in the bottom right corner of the margin as seen, otherwise it is very clean with a nice anttique quality that would frame up nicely. 1916 Mount Rainier Washington National Park Guide Travel Booklet Rules Map
An original Department of the Interior Booklet of Mount Rainier National Park for the 1916 season. Measuring 9 x 5 3/4 ins and having 43 pages. Some small marks. A few'dog ears' but on the whole in reasonable condition for a well read booklet nearly a 100 years old. As a matter of interest this has actually been on the summit of the mountain in 1916, climbed by its original owner. Published by the Secretary of War, Washington: Government Printing Office, 1891-1895) undoubtedly the most complete set of accurate maps of the Civil War ever published. The title of the atlas appears in the top left margin and plate number in the upper right. A copy of the title page ... moreis included with all the publishing details for authenticity. The atlas was published in a very limited context to be distributed to government officials in the three houses of government as a reference for assessing the Civil War. This is from the original first publishing, that lasted from 1891-5. In general, these maps are very detailed showing lines of approach, battle formations, forts, batteries, dates, various armies and officers involved, topography down to houses in many cases and other details and historical notes. The Union lines are in blue and the Confederate in Red. A very beautiful map that will frame up nicely! Size: The map image measures 16 by 27 inches on a page measuring approximately 18 by 29 inches with plenty of margin all around for framing. It is a full double page sheet as issued. Condition: The map sheet is in Good to Very Good condition with overall light tonal aging. Blank on the reverse, printed on heavy pliable paper with a centerfold as issued. There are a couple of minor nicks out of the edge, split at the top of the centerfold margin only, and a short edge tear, otherwise it is very clean on strong paper that would frame up nicely. For over 50 years, Mitchell his son's and their successors were ... morethe most prominent cartographical publishers of maps and atlases in the United States. Samuel Augustus Mitchell was born in Bristol. Connecticut on March 20, 1792. His father emigrated from Scotland in 1773. While little is know about his early schooling, it is know that Mitchell found the quality of early geography text books to be lacking, and determined that he would write and publish better works. This decision led him to relocate to Philadelphia in 1829 or 1830, which was then the center of commercial publishing in America. Mitchells first cartographic work was the re-issue of Anthony Finleys New American Atlas in 1831. A work first issued by Finley in 1826, in response to Henry Schenk Tanners monumental work of the same title, issued in serial format from 1818 to 1822 and as a complete work from 1823 onward. While the map content in Mitchells edition of the New American Atlas are same as Finleys edition, each map has been significantly improved and revised, primarily with the addition of new owns and roads. This is especially true in the South and West. Finley had originally collaborated with D.H. Vance and J.H. Young in the preparation of the maps. Vances name is removed

Interestingly, this map is oriented with the in the upper left corner of the map, resulting in the map having a square orientation, rather than the diamond shape that was envisioned by Thomas Jefferson and the orientation of Ellicott�s original map. This is a beautiful old trade card that was issued by the Arbuckle Bros. Coffee Co. to advertise their"Ariosa" coffee. This card is"No. 78 Washington" in their popular"State and Territory Map Series" It depicts the map of the state of Washington. And a view of old-time lumbering. Chevron Standard Oil Co. fold out road map of the greater Spokane area. The colorful front cover shows a view of the business district of Spokane. Map was produced by H.M. Gousha and the HH code tells us the production date is 1960. This map covers a large area around Spokane including Cheney. Medical Lake, Cour de Lane, Idaho from as far north as Athol all the way to Fish Trap. What I like about this map is it also shows the railroad lines. Map is in near mint condition. This example is very clean. Crisp, unmarked, no tears, or pinholes and has been folded very well. Collectible maps this clean are getting hard to find, especially at 52 years of age, over half a century. Please see scan below.
