The first Surveyor General's map of the Washington Territory, this map covers the region from the Pacific Ocean to the western foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Most of the significant survey work is limited to the lands to the east of the Cascade Mountains, with the state of the land survey noted via a series of blocks representing the survey grid. This is a large 1879 Railroad Map of Washington. It measures 15 X 11 inches. Map was taken from the Rand McNally New Business Atlas which is very rare and highly sought after. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It may have a few minor handling flaws as to be expected in a map this age and large. Please see scan. The Rand McNally Business Atlas first printed in 1876. Was still in transition in 1881. Rand McNally was experimenting with different methods so that shipping clerks would find the railroads on the maps with speed and exactness. Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are anywhere from 20 to 80 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. This is a large 1892 Railroad Map of Washington state. It measures 25 X 17 inches. This map has listed the railroad companies and area in which they cover. See top lower scans. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It is in absolutely perfect condition. Nicest we've seen in over 25 years of selling maps. Map was taken from the Cram's Railway Atlas which is near impossible to find and very expensive when found. All maps are sent carefully rolled in a secure pvc shipping tube by priority mail. We take special care in shipping these maps as there are no replacements. Your map will be rolled in kraft paper. Then taped to apply enough pressure to keep map from shifting in the tube and possibly dulling the edges. We also insure each map for it's full value. S. Barnes and Co. 111 and 113 William Street, New York. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map has Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah& Arizona on one side and miscellaneous geography lessons or information on the flip side. Scale is 1 inch equals about 130 miles. Map shows latitude and longitude lines. Pages are about 11 7/8 inches by 9 ¾ inches. The pages ... morehave some age spots and almost all have small rectangles of paper missing from the margin where the pages were bound, but does not affect the viewing area. See pictures. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Maps may have small dog-eared corners or small pieces of corners or margins missing.
