The map measures ... moreapproximately 17" x 13 1/2" Including the border area. Map is with original handcoloring and outlining and is blank on the reverse side. It is not matted nor framed, being sold as a single sheet as show in the main picture. This map is from the New Topographical Atlas Of The State of Pennsylvania With Descriptions Historical. Scientific, and Statistical. By Professor Henry F. Walling and O.W. Gray, Civil& Top'l. Engineer. Published in 1872 by Stedman, Brown& Lyton, Philadelphia. The map has fantastic coloring to it and is a great period county map. With towns, cities, railroads, roads, etc. of the time. Excellent, detailed and interesting period map of these counties. The map is generally in Very Good condition. There is some wear and browning along the edges. There are some creases and small tears around the edges of the paper. But they do not extend into the map area. There are tears along the left side where it was originally bound. A darker stain is on the right edge and other dings here and there, as well. This map is a great piece of US history! It will look very nice when framed. Please note that while I have included pictures of the front board of the Atlas and the Title Page from the Atlas this map was taken from. They are NOT included in the sale, as they are reference pieces to determine authenticity for the other maps. I would be happy to include a copy if requested. An unusual themed map. A beautifully executed combination of colored topographical land elevations depicted by height with red overprinted railroad lines which have been extensively referenced across the map. Along the side or bottom is a key of boxes. Where each color represents a range of heights. Thus, when viewing the map, you quickly see the topographical nature of the state. Delicately overprinted in red near the title and across the state are the extensive range of railroad lines then in operation. Printed in the very early 20th century. On a specially prepared coated paper stock which has been very richly printed. Beautifully printed ... moremap. The ink is unusually rich and pleasing to the eye. On the back is a similar map of Wisconsin. A very scarce map which was apparently only issued as loose supplemental map sheets for an early 20th century Hammond loose-leaf atlas project. One of the joys natural to most collectors is to find and own a scarce or illusive item. If a U.S. Coin or stamp were to exist with only four to five copies known. The value of such an item would be out of most collectors price range. Here is a chance to own just such an item. According to worldcat.org only one other edition of this atlas is still around and it is in the Cornell University Library.
