Delaware and Washington D.C. with two Insets: 1) Baltimore and Environs; 2) Northwestern part of Maryland Copyright: 1893 Map Size: 19" X 12" Page Size: 22" X 14" Condition: Very Good with overall age toning. Darker toward the edge. Seldom available and relatively rare. I am pleased to offer these C. 1890's individual maps salvaged from a Rand McNally& Co.s Atlas(elephant folio) Each map is copyrighted with a year in the 1890's. All the maps are printed on heavy paper; they are aquatinted and display much more detail than smaller maps. Any relevant faults such as foxing, tears, holes or stains are disclosed if they affect the map area and are visually detracting. You will note that these maps are very larger and at least double the size of most other maps available. Rand McNally published a number of smaller-sized atlases, some with a similar name and same year, so in comparing, pay particular attention to the map size. The larger maps have more detail and additional description. These maps were tipped into the atlas and therefore contain no staple marks. Most of the maps are double-page and therefore have a crease down the center and the tipping strip on the reverse. The crease may be professionally pressed out. But the crease mark will never completely disappear. It should also be expected that the page edges will show some minor wear but the wear will not be noticeable after being matted and framed. But the map does label the National Road, through Washington,Easton, Elizabethtown, and Middlebourne, and the Steubenville Road through Winchester and Antrim. It locates the east boundary line of the United States Military District. A land tract established by Congress to compensate veterans of the American Revolutionary War for their service. It also includes small portions of Tuscrawas and Harrison counties and labels the Cleveland, Lorain& Wheeling Railroad through Freeport. The map is drawn on a scale of 1:62.500 and is ... morebased on surveys conducted in 1908-1909. Other details include township and range lines, schools, and churches, and it even locates individual houses and farms! This is Washington as it was known well over 100 years ago! Page measures approx 13.5" x 10.5" and is in overall good condition. Edge on one side is rough where it was torn out of the book, and there are a couple very small stains& creases. This is a large 1881 Railroad Map of Washington Territory. It measures 15 X 11 inches. Map was taken from the Rand McNally New Business Atlas which is very rare and highly sought after. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It may have a few minor handling flaws as to be expected in a map this age and large. Please see scan. The Rand McNally Business Atlas first printed in 1876. Was still in transition in 1881. Rand McNally was experimenting with different methods so that shipping clerks would find the railroads on the maps with speed and exactness. You are looking at a 1890 Washington Railway map from Grant’s Bankers’ and Brokers’ Railway Atlas. This map covers the whole of Washington as it was in 1890. The map itself was the product of George Cram. A well known map publisher at the turn of the century. The atlas was created for stock speculation to show clients the routes of the early railroads. Land speculators, stock brokers, bankers and some financial big wigs were the market place A.A. Grant wanted to please with this atlas. We have heard about one earlier. An 1899 edition. This 1890 atlas or one like it, was once the property of some repository in the North Eastern part of the United States. Worldcat lists it, but no one knows who had it or where it is.
