1920 Vintage Maps PENNSYLVANIA. West Virginia(back to back) This map is from the"The Volume Library" copyrighted 1920. It is in unaltered condition. It has been carefully removed from the book. The book was not it the best condition and falling apart. It has a little yellowing around the edges but no major tears or creases or markings. The page is 8"x11" Please note: I am not an expert in everything I sell. I sell mostly used. As Is' vintage items so there will be signs of cosmetic wear. But I do try to describe everything including defects to best of my ability. Please feel free to ask questions. These vintage road maps are in MINT TO CRISP CONDITION UNLESS NOTED All are sold as is I have pictured ONLY the covers in some cases only due to the long process of unfolding folding and photography. If you are interested in seeing the full photographic condition of a particular map I will be more than happy to post additional pics showing the map in its entirity Description Grades listed below CRISP no soil. Wear, or creases. Station stamp is acceptable, as are small wrinkles introduced in printing. Age toning acceptable only if even. MINT As above. But minor edge wear seen. Light pencil marking okay. Age toning may be uneven. NEAR MINT As above. Professional routing marks or a minor annotation okay. Creases show usage. But map has not been misfolded. EXCELLENT As above. But wear is evident. Corners of inner creases may be beginning to separate, ... morebut less than 1 cm. May be rippled from water damage/high humidity but may not be foxed. Any dogear creases are not torn. There may be single tack holes. Map may have been misfolded. VERY GOOD As above. But separations extend less than half a panel span. If tears are not on a crease, each is less than 1 cm. Writing may be significant but does not damage front cover design. Map may be brittle but can be still opened flat without damage. Soil or scuffs can be present, but food or oil is absent. Fading is extensive. Minor foxing can be present, or minor insect damage i.e.silverfish skinning" not affecting information. GOOD As above. But problems are cumulative. This map features a lot of local advertising. Map is in fair condition with some discoloration due to age. 7. Gousha Distributor Map- Alexandria/Arlington and Fairfax County. Including Clifton. Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park, Vienna and adjoining communities. Map is in good condition. There are some penciled notes written on the inner flap. Antique Maps of Virginia/West Virginia and North Carolina from Gray's Atlas 1873
This is a sheet from Gray's Atlas of 1873 with a map of Virginia and West Virginia on one side and a map of North Carolina on the other side. There is an inset map of Beaufort Harbor on the North Carolina side and two insets on the Virginia side. One of Richmond, Manchester and Spring Hill and the other of Norfolk, Portsmouth and Gosport. The sheet measures approximately 17⅛ inches by 14⅝ inches. Both maps from border to border measure approximately 14⅞ inches by 11⅞ inches. Condition is good with a clean tear about one-inch long on the left edge of each map. On the Virginia/West Virginia side the tear ends about one-half inch from the border whereas on the North Carolina side it ends just above the area marked Cherokee which extends past the border. There is also a small(half-inch) area at the mouth of the Potomac River where the priinting ... moreis thin(this can bee seen in the photograph of the Virginia side) Map may be shipped flat or rolled. 9 Old geological topographic maps West Virginia-Va.-Ohio by quadrangles
Please scroll below the description for photos. I obtained a small group of old United States Geological Survey topographic maps from several states and am listing them as state groups. They were all obtained in a rolled position and will be shipped that way in a rigid shipping container. Most are in quite good condition and can be unrolled safely without any damage but will need to be matted or framed to be held down for display. Would make nice framed wall pieces. Some will have a little typical end of roll or edge crinkling and wear from storage but when unrolled doesn't go into the map area and would be covered by frame or mat. They would display nicely framed or matted. These were mostly reprints of an earlier survey but looks like there might be one or more that are the original edition as I found one that only said Edition of 1922 ... morewith no reprint dates shown. A lot had an original survey done in the early 1900's and these reprint maps range from the 1920'1940's WWII era. They were all made as individual maps. They are not removed from a book or portfolio. The maps are 16-1/2" x 20" in size unless stated otherwise. The back sides are printed with the history and story of the US Geological Surveys and information about the maps. This auction is for a group of 9 maps from West Virginia but two also have another state included. One includes part of Virginia and one Ohio. I took more extensive photos of two of the maps to illustrate content and condition and rest are all same format and in similar condition. You only see 7 in the group photo but the other two are the ones I showed spread out so there are 9 in all. There are some tears on the folds and someone did some math on the one side. All of these maps are old. I have tried to describe them best I can but may have missed something.
