A beautifully executed combination of colored topographical land elevations depicted by height with red overprinted railroad lines which have been extensively referenced across the map. Along the side or bottom is a key of boxes. Where each color represents a range of heights. Thus, when viewing the map, you quickly see the topographical nature of the state. Delicately overprinted in red near the title and across the state are the extensive range of railroad lines then in operation. Printed in the very early 20th century. On a specially prepared coated paper stock which has been very richly printed. Beautifully printed map. The ink is unusually rich and pleasing to the eye. 1878"Parts of Western Wyoming. Southeastern Idaho and Northeastern Utah" U. S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories, F. V. Hayden, U. S. Geologist in charge. Map is from the"Twelfth Annual Report of the United States Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories: A Report of the progress of the Exploration in Wyoming and Idaho for the Year 1878. by F. V. Hayden" with the whole report printed and released by the government printing office in 1883. Man made features include roads, trails, railroad and towns such as Logan, Franklin, Richmond, Smithfield, Coketown, Georgetown, and Soda Springs and ranches, ferries, bridges and train stations. These are very historic and interesting additions to the topographical map. The map is about 23 by 32 inches. This is the topographical map companion to the geology ... moremap also being offered. The folding map was made on very thin paper and does not survive the 130 years well. This map is in good to very good condition for the usual state of this map with many archival tape repairs to the reverse and paper damage at most of the top row of the four corner fold points. There is some splitting along the folds near the edges and browning along the top fold line. The reverse of the map has the title. See all photos. Map will be shipped Priority Mail rolled in heavy mylar plastic in a tube/box. Insured and tracked. I do not recommend refolding this map for easier and cheaper shipping. Questions welcomed.

This is for the map you see in the pictures. This is a big map at 11 x 14-1/2 inches from edge to edge. The map is in great condition with no rips or marks in the map part and just slight toning to the page. This is a double or triple sided map and will include the states in the title. Some of the map pages are made together as they have a 2 page map on the inside and a single one on the back of each side of that. You will have to look carefully at the pictures as that is the maps you will get. I have a lot of other maps on from this atlas and will combine shipping. This auction is for the extremely rare and 100% original and authentic antique map of the above region. Cartographer and year. This auction is only for the map that is pictured in this listing. Cartographer: Samuel Augustus Mitchell(March 20. 1792- December 20, 1868) Senior began his map publishing career in the early 1830s. Having worked as a school teacher, Mitchell was frustrated with the low quality and inaccuracy of school texts of the period. His first maps were an attempt to rectify this problem. In the next 20 years Mitchell would become the most prominent American map publisher of the mid-19th century. Mitchell worked with prominent engravers J. H. Young, H. S. Tanner, and H. N. Burroughs before attaining the full copyright on his maps in 1847. In 1849 Mitchell teamed up with printer Cowperthwait& Company to produce the Mitchell's ... moreUniversal Atlas and the Mitchell's General Atlas. In the late 1850s most of the Mitchell copyrights were bought by Desilver and Co. who continued to publish his maps. Many with modified borders and color schemes, until Mitchell's son, Samuel Augustus Mitchell Junior, entered the picture. S.A. Mitchell Jr. purchased most of the copyrights back from Desilver and, from 1860 on, published his own New General Atlas. The younger Mitchell became as prominent as his father and published atlases well into the late 1880s when most of the copyrights were again sold and the Mitchell firm closed its doors for the final time. Single page map from Cram's Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World. 14th edition(1883) Revised to 1886. Arizona is on reverse) Approximate 11.5 by 13.5 inches(29x34 cm) I will generally refrain from breaking books or removing maps from atlases, but I do sometimes get an incomplete book that is beyond repair given its state and value. These maps are from such an atlas. Condition is Very Good, with some small tears and wear to the edges. Paper is clean and intact with some age toning. Maps themselves are generally clean, and any other flaws or marks to the maps will be noted here. Margin is untrimmed from where it was attached to binding, so is rough. Slight darkening to this edge as well. Most of these have been printed on both sides, and only the listed side is shown. 1848"Western Territories of the United States" by D. F. Robinson. Copyrighted 1847 and believed to be the second in this series published in 1848. Territories. States and areas shown in full or partial are: a greatly reduced Texas, Nebraska, Indian Ter. Iowa, Minnesota, California, Utah, New Mexico, and Oregon. Area covered includes Montana, Wyoming Oregon, Washington, Idaho, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Utah, Nevada, California, New Mexico, Arizona and Oklahoma. Map size is about 11 by 17 inches and richly colored. Map in good shape. It does not have the usual staining along the fold. Stains are 1) black ink spots in Nebraska. 2) small water stain in Oregon taking out a little of Champooing and the area right above it, 3) stain at the neat line near the Oregon coast, 4) stains in New Mexico and Utah, 5) smudges ... morein Indian Ter. and 6) four weak pencil lines through southern Nebraska and into Indian Ter. one erased? Some color fading in Minnesota. The stains and pencil lines have little affect on the map except the one in Oregon. The map has been in a matted frame and in shrink wrap for over 30 years and I do not want to remove it unless it is sold. There are probably dirty or smudges along the edges of the sheet. The hand wash coloring is very good and the map is very clean for this map with the notations above. Colorado is part of Utah. New Mexico and Nebraska. Wyoming part of Nebraska, Utah and Oregon. An 1847 version of this map is also being offered with the tall Texas stovepipe at the same time. Map will be removed from the matting and rolled in thick Mylar plastic and placed in a tube/box for shipping with the seller paying for insurance and tracking. If wanted to remain in the mat and shrink wrap I can do separate invoice adding $10.00 for shipping carton. If knowing the condition of the edges and the back is important I will open it up and send/add more photos/description if I have at least one days notice before the end of the auction. Flying A Tidewater Associated Oil Road Map, 1947, Arizona, Nevada & Utah, NoRes
From what I can find on the internet the U code on this map makes it from 1947. This map is out of dry storage in dry New Mexico so there is no mustiness to it. It is used and in fairly decent condition with some shop wear from being around for 66 or so years as can be seen in the photos. The colors are not faded and it displays nicely. There is some stains on the covers(see photos) I just need to pass this on to someone who collects them so NO RESERVE sold as is. Dimensions: 16x12in or 41x31cm. This is an original antique double sided page or leaf from the 1943 WWII Wartime published Encyclopedia Britannica Atlas. Please note that this is not a lot for two separate images but rather this is a page with two sides. Each with a map of it's own. There are some condition issues with this map: minor discoloration along the page edges and brittle paper. No major creases or holes. There is a minor tear on the outside edge. As featured in the photos, approximately.5in large. It is in largely Good condition, given it's age. On one side is the state of Texas. With it's well planned counties and many cities and towns. Below it's Gulf Coast is a list of railroads which existed at the time of this maps creation. There is a small inset on the bottom left corner of this map with the Western portion ... moreof Texas. Ft. Worth, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Houston are all largely marked and easy enough to see. On the other side is the state of Utah. With Logan. Ogden, and Salt Lake City in the north beside the Great Salt Lake, this is a handsome map, with Green and Colorado Rivers in the south. This is a delicate map that needs to be handled carefully and should be stored flat or framed under glass. It will be shipped flat and protected with stiff cardboard and labelled not to be bent.
