It is from the 1862 Edition of Johnson's Family Atlas. A copy of the title page is included for authenticity. It is not matted. Mounted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as shown in the main pic. Overall a very nice map in great condition that would frame up beautifully with an antique appearance as desired. It is a rare map showing horizontal New Mexico and Arizona and particularly the inclusion of the disputed land between Nevada and California beginning in 1861 of the land east of the Sierra Nevadas, which on the map is shown ... moreas part of Nevada, which in 1863 reverted back to California, and the first year of inclusion of Colorado as an organized territory. Also shown are the Santa Fe Trail and other routes of migration and exploration, Sutter's Mill, Ruins in New Mexico, Indian Tribes, Gold and Silver Mines, trapping and unexplored areas and other details. Size: The map image measures approximately 16 1/2 by 24 inches on a 18 by 26 1/2" 46x67cm) page with a margin all around for framing. Antique Map from Colton's Atlas of America. 1857 Original 157 year old antique map from Colton's Atlas of America. The scarce advertising atlas with numerous full and half page advertisements in addition to the maps. We purchased the atlas as a partial one with some of the advertisements removed. We've included an image of the title page(not included as part of this auction) below, just for informational purposes. The overall size of the page is an impressive 18.5" x 16" The map was printed and then hand watercolored to show the various counties and other divisions. It provides a fascinating snapshot view of the area's geographical details at the time of publication 157 years ago. This map includes primarily Utah and New Mexico. Portions of this area later comprised portions of Arizona. Colorado and Nevada. Condition ... moreis very good. And much nicer than the image would suggest. There is some modest age-darkening around the edges, otherwise the map is very clean. It's not as dark as the photo would suggest. And the printing is sharp and clear. There are some very light shadows of printing from the advertisement that was on its opposite page at one time. Barely visible. The reverse side is blank. See the image for condition details. Updated 1902) this is a beautifully detailed, 110-year-old color map of the State of Utah together with Nevada. It measures about 12 by 16 inches(about 30 by 40 cm. and is in Fine condition. This map is very detailed showing topographical features, counties and townships, cities and villages, routes of old railroads(in red) and more. An inset shows enlarged detail of the Salt Lake Basin. Elevations are shown with contour lines, hachures and indications of feet above sea level. The entire map is surrounded by an engraved border, typical of finer maps of the period. Of historic interest are the numbered townships and ranges from the original territorial land surveys, as well as Indian reservations and several ghost towns. You are bidding on a Champlin 1962 road map of Colorado. Nevada& Utah. The map has some wrinkle damage in the upper right corner which shows through as holes when unfolded. Both covers are the same bu I scanned it twice so you can see the damage on either side. Overall I would rate it as good. I use grading system: mint. Excellent, very good, good, fair& trash but place holder. However the cover has nice graphics and at first glance looks petty good. I am selling my entire collection of road maps There are 75 different bands with over 350 maps. I have selected the best one of each brand and will list them in batches.
