It is not matted nor framed, being sold as a single sheet as show in the main picture. This map is from the New Topographical Atlas Of The State of Pennsylvania With Descriptions Historical. Scientific, and Statistical. By Professor Henry F. Walling and O.W. Gray, Civil& Top'l. Engineer. Published in 1872 by Stedman, Brown& Lyton, Philadelphia. The map has fantastic coloring to it and is a great period county map. With towns, cities, railroads, roads, etc. of the time. Excellent, detailed and interesting period map of these counties. The map is generally in Very Good condition. There is some wear and browning along the edges. There are some creases and small tears around the edges of the paper. But they do not extend into the map area. There are tears along the left side where it was originally bound. A darker stain is on the right edge and other dings here and there, as well. This map is a great piece of US history! It will look very nice when framed. Please note that while I have included pictures of the front board of the Atlas and the Title Page from the Atlas this map was taken from. They are NOT included in the sale, as they are reference pieces to determine authenticity for the other maps. I would be happy to include a copy if requested. Basically as seen in the pics, with overall light tonal aging and slight darkening around the edges, blank on the reverse, printed on heavy paper with original hand coloring and a centerfold as issued. There is a split of about four inches at the bottom of the fold, one short half inch edge tear and some very minor light smudges in the margin hardly visible, otherwise the map is very clean with nice color that would frame up nicely. Division of Soils and contains much detail such as small roads, hamlets, and even buildings. The different colors indicate various soil types. The map would be great for map collectors. Farmers, gardeners, and even genealogy, because it shows all of the towns in existence at the time that may not exist now. The lithography was done by the A. Hoen& Company Lithographers of Baltimore.
