Map is hand-colored and has Pennsylvania Geology data on the reverse side. This map is from the New Topographical Atlas Of The State of Pennsylvania With Descriptions Historical. Scientific, and Statistical. By Professor Henry F. Walling and O.W. Gray, Civil& Top'l. Engineer. Published in 1872 by Stedman, Brown& Lyton, Philadelphia. The map has fantastic data on it. Showing the Mean Temperature for the Summer, Winter and for the Year. The map is generally in Good condition. There is wear and browning. Particularly on the left hand side. There are some creases and tears around the edges of the paper. Particularly along the bottom where it was originally bound. There is one tear on the left hand side that does extend slightly into the map area. There are a few darker stains near the Title at the top. There are creases in the corners, and there are other dings here and there, as well. This map is a great piece of US history! It will look very nice when framed. Please note that while I have included pictures of the front board of the Atlas and the Title Page from the Atlas this map was taken from. They are NOT included in the sale, as they are reference pieces to determine authenticity for the other maps. I would be happy to include a copy if requested. This hand-colored map is from the 1864"Bridgens Atlas of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This atlas was from actual surveys by H. F. Bridgens and Assistants and published by D. S. Bare, Lancaster, PA. Bridgens is credited with creating the first Lancaster County atlas. The town plans are drawn on a scale 500- 900 feet to one inch. The townships are shown on a scale of 1.25- 2 inches to 1 mile, and show great detail of rivers, roads, property owners, business subscribers, and more. There was a total of 43 pages. This was page 34. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Additional information: The map shows the Township of Eden. Also shows Quarryville. Camargo, and May. It also shows Paterson's Run, Mt. Eden Furnace, and Keen's Run. The map also has an inset of the property owners of Quarryville at the time. Date: 1864. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The page measures 16 3/8" x 16" Maker: Published by D. S. Bare. Lancaster, PA. Distinguishing Characteristics- Most Interesting About The Piece: A very nice high quality antique map. Condition: The map is in very good shape with foxing and general darkening along the edges. This map was taken out of an atlas and shows the sewing holes from the binding on the left edge. Map shows overall soiling. Some foxing, dampness marks along the bottom and left edge, rounded corner at bottom right and a torn-off corner top right as well as small tears along the edges. The sheet also has some minor creases and folds along the edges. Be that as it may the map is otherwise intact and non of the tears or folds and creases reach it. Pennsylvania Folding Road Map This was the first year that the Gulf Oil Company offered the larger 6 panel 18"x 12" folding travelers road map. Before this issue. Gulf road maps were half this size and consisted of only 3 panels. This Rand McNally produced map is in excellent condition with very modest soiling to external folds and a very minor bump to one corner.
