1891 Crams Atlas of the World- Map of North and South Carolina Extra large double page measures 14-1/2" X 21-1/2" Book Copyright date is 1891 + + + + Reverse side of page is two smaller maps of Alabama and Mississippi These pages each measure 10-3/4" X 14-1/2" + + + + Large original map. The map is too wide to fit on my scanner so the margins are partially cut off. Lots of details on these maps. See the closeups for examples. + + + There is some usual darkening around the edges of the pages. But generally in good condition for paper that is 121 years old! Also. The margin where the page was bound in the book has staple holes and staining from rust. It is outside the map area and still good for framing. All of my maps are originals. Original, steel-engraved map of North and South Carolina, North America XI, by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge(SDUK) published as part of the Society's Atlas in 1844, in London, by Chapman and Hall. The SDUK began its map publishing project under the leadership of Captain Francis Beaufort R.N. in 1829, and published the maps in parts, haltingly, over the next 15 years, completing the series in 1844, finally permitting the publication of a whole atlas. Many of the maps were actually drawn by Beaufort, who at the time was the Hydrographer to the Royal Navy, and all were closely supervised by him. J. C. Walker worked closely with Beaufort in engraving the maps. Finely engraved, these maps set a standard of excellence for commercial map-makers in England for decades to come. This is from the original first publishing, that lasted from 1891-5. Doc. No. 26. A facsimile copy of the Index Page is included. The maps are well documented in the title block area stating it as a US. Coast Survey and dated 1851 or earlier in some cases. They are uncolored as originally issued. The map is not matted, mounted or framed, being sold as shown in the main pic. Size: The map image measures approximately 11 3/4 by 20 1/2 inches on a 12 1/4 by 22 1/2" page. Condition: The map is in Fair to Good condition typical ... moreof a folding map. Blank on the reverse with a horizontal and vertical fold as issued. It is basically as seen in the pic. There is some darkening and splitting along the folds, some wear along the top edge, and a few random specks, otherwise the map area is clean in general, see the pics for more on condition. The paper is still very pliable, although it should handled with care, great for framing. The pics are of the actual map being sold.
