Here's a two-fer for you. On this single sheet from the F.W. Beers Atlas of Middlesex County in 1875 there is a map of Carlisle Massachusetts on one side and a map of Bedford Mass on the other. Beautifully handcolored maps. Carlisle in pale pink and Bedford in yellow gold, on a sheet that measures approx. 15" by 12" Unlike much of what you find online nowadays, these are originals. A real treat to see if you're from Bedford or from Carlisle or live or work there now. These maps are very handsome when framed and always fun to pore over. If you own a business in either town this would make a great addition to your office or store. If you're a real estate agent who sells properties in Carlisle or in Bedford there's no better gift for a new homeowner. Some of the natural features in Carlisle on the map include: Pages Brook. Concord River, Iron Ore Spring, Tophet Swamp, Bellow Hill, Patch Meadow Brook, and Rail Tree Hill. Points of interest identified on the Carlisle map include: a Hoop Factory. Town Farm, Grist Mill, Copper Mine, school houses#2, 3, 4 and#5, Cider Mill, Unitarian Church, and the Congregational Church and Parsonage. There's also a small inset close-up map of the center of town. Here the houses are shown in outline so if you have an older house in Carlisle center it will show the house's footprint in 1875 as well as the homeowner. 1895 Map (Chart) of Massachusetts Bay, Cape Cod to Gloucester
j This is an original 1895 linen-cloth backed chart of Massachusetts Bay. Including Cape Cod, the South Shore, Boston, and the North Shore up to Gloucester, made by Geo. W. Eldridge of Martha's Vineyard, and known as"Chart D. Eldridge published maritime charts from Long Island Sound to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a very large scale chart from Cape Henry, Virginia, to Haliax, labeled variously"A" through"K. The chart measures 61 3/4" by 34" When framed just outside the black border. The tears won't be visible except for a hairline in the upper left. There is a water stain at the top, and a light crease on the left side about 1/3 the way up. The chart has wooden battens fastened at top and bottom- a dowel at the bottom and a molded piece at the top- of dark stained wood. Overall, this chart is in good condition ... moreand will look good framed. George W. Eldridge. Son of chartmaker/hydrographer George Eldridge of Chatham, Mass. made charts from the late 1800s up to his death in 1914, whereupon his son-in-law Wilfrid O. White continued printing them through the 1920s. All Eldridge charts(by both father and son) were based on government surveys as well as their own soundings, and became popular for their readability and ease of use. HUGE bound foldout MAP of Massachusetts 1903 color, linen paper Scarborough Co.
Bound. Folded topographical map of Massachusetts The Scarborough Company Boston copyright 1903 Showing railroads. Electrical railways, steamboat lines, highways, post offices, villages, etc. completely indexed. SIZE: The map measures 57 inches by 39 and 1/2 inches. The binding measures 4 and 3/4 inches by 10 and 1/2 inches. CONDITION: Good to very good. Considering that this map is the size of a dining table and probably has been folded and refolded many times. It's in remarkable shape. A few of the folds are split on the seam, mostly on the legends at the bottom of the map. See photo 4) The topographical image is unaffected. The paper is linen-like and looks like cloth. It is clean except for a very old, 2-inch moisture mark on the back edge that does not mar the image. The brown cloth covers are bumped and worn on the corners and have ... morea couple of chips on the edges. The gilt titles are slightly dulled but readable. There are four light spots the size of raindrops on the front cover. ABOUT THE MAP: This map is a history lesson in itself. It tells you everything about the Bay State circa 1903- it's hills. Vales, geography, utilities, governors, county seats, distances between towns etc. It is on durable paper with colored regions. It has survived, amazingly, many foldings and refoldings. ShipSaver.

Rough edges, wrinkles, discoloration, staining, has small tears on the edges, has been folded and creased, and has tape on the top edge. It is 22 1/2" by 29" Will be mailed rolled. Made approximately 150 years ago. Printed in the mid-19th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. Nicely detailed, with attractive original hand color. In good+ condition. Scattered light foxing and spotting as seen in scan, some light soiling and paper wrinkling[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing.
