It is also a time capsule for documenting the change that has occurred in the region over the last 88 years. It measures approximately 20 by 12 inches in size. Two maps available. One map has a tear along fold line repaired with tape and a dime size hole on the edge of the right border. It's cost is $4.99. The second map is in excellent condition with no damage noted. It's cost is $9.99. If you want the less expensive map wait until I adjust the invoice before paying. Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying may be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. All the maps are printed on heavy paper; they are aquatinted and display much more detail than smaller maps. Any relevant faults such as foxing, tears, holes or stains are disclosed if they affect the map area and are visually detracting. You will note that these maps are very larger and at least double the size of most other maps available. Rand McNally published a number of smaller-sized atlases, some with a similar name and same year, so in comparing, pay particular attention to the map size. The larger maps have more detail and additional description. These maps were tipped into the atlas and therefore contain no staple marks. Most of the maps are double-page and therefore have a crease down the center and the tipping strip on the reverse. The crease may be professionally pressed out. But the crease mark will never completely disappear. It should also be expected that the page edges will show some minor wear but the wear will not be noticeable after being matted and framed. There are even a few ghost towns on this map no longer in existence today. Elevations and drainage are indicated using hachures, as was common in 19th Century cartography. Most antique and vintage maps have subdued shades, but these maps have rich colors that will really stand out framed. Because the maps are printed back to back. Only one can be displayed at a time. An original page from a 1960s atlas. Not a reprint or copy. Condition: Very good. The pages was just a bit big for the scanner. So part of the margin does not show in the image. The actual page is complete. Approximate dimensions: Page: 8.75 x 12 inches* Map: 8 x 11 inches. Most items are scanned with a black background. But they came out of a loose leaf binder that has a copyright date of 1919, see above scan of copyright date. Map will come carefully rolled in kraft paper and inside a strong pvc mailing tube. This lot consists of an ocean survey map from the 1970's done by the United States Department of Commerce depicting chesapeake bay Maryland Cove point to Sandy point. A very nice piece that measures 36 x 40 inches. This is a boating marine chart. This item has some edge wear as can be seen in the picture and a very tiny piece of the border cut out. It also could use a good flattening. This doesn't affect the map and won't be seen if it's matted and/or framed. Item is numbered 12263. Map depicts depts and has nice detail. Titled"A General Map of the Middle British Colonies in America, shows the east coast of North America from Montreal and New England to the northern border of North Carolina, and also includes the Ohio valley in the west. The Evans map appeared in 1755, the same year as John Mitchell's famous map, with Evans drawing from his own original surveys, as well as Fry and Jefferson's 1753 map of Virginia. Evans's map acknowledges French claims to all lands northwest of St. Lawrence Fort, resulting in criticism from New York. Despite the controversy, Evans's work was influential(there were eighteen editions and piracies issued between 1755 and 1814) and was famously used by General Braddock during the French and Indian War. Vintage 1925 National Geographic Map Maryland. Delaware& District of Columbia This is a beautiful map using colors and typeface that were not seen in maps printed after 1937 by National Geographic. It is also a time capsule for documenting the change that has occurred in the region over the last 88 years. It measures approximately 20 by 12 inches in size. Two maps available. One map has a tear along fold line repaired with tape and a dime size hole on the edge of the right border. It's cost is $4.99. The second map is in excellent condition with no damage noted. It's cost is $9.99. If you want the less expensive map wait until I adjust the invoice before paying. Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been ... morestored in the best way. So the maps you are buying may be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. This individual map is from the highly sought after and almost nonexistent 1814 edition of Carey’s General Atlas which was the first edition to use standard outline hand color. Carey first published the General Atlas in 1796 with several updates through the early 19th century. But it wasn’t until the 1814 edition that the plates went through a major revision. This revision included updates based upon the discoveries of Lewis& Clark, and features many important engravings west of the Appalachian mountains including Tennessee. Mississippi Territory. Louisiana and Missouri Territory beyond Louisiana. Mathew Carey was a seminal figure in early American ... morepublishing. Establishing the first publishing firm to specialize in cartography and issuing the first atlas devoted exclusively to American maps. The American Atlas concept was also adopted by other publishers in both the United States and Europe.
