This is a vintage road map of Arkansas. Louisiana and Mississippi by the H.M. Gousha Company for Phillips 66 Stations published in 1957. One side shows the three states with federal and state highways, major roads and no interstates. There is also a list of cities and towns with populations. The reverse has insets of New Orleans, Shreveport, Jackson, Little Rock, Memphis and Fort Smith. The traffic rules for the states are listed as well. There is also an US map with all the federal highways shown. The map measures 18 x 26.5 inches. In original outline color, engraved by Pierre François Tardieu and printed more than 215 years ago. This map was published in Paris by Edme Mentelle and Pierre Gilles Chanlaire. 1798. It labels 14 states and identifies their capital cities, and it locates Indian tribes west of the Appalachians. The map is titled Carte Générale des États-Unis de l'Amérique Septentrionale. Renfermant aussi quelques Provinces Angloises adjacentes. The image area measures 43 x 32.5 cm[17" x 12-1/2" And longitude is measured from Paris and Ferro. Florida. Which was under Spanish rule when this map was printed, extends west to the Mississippi River. The boundaries of present-day Maine had not yet been settled, ... moreand its area is labled"Part of Massachusetts Bay. There is no Ohio or Kentucky. Colton recognized an emerging market in railroad maps and immigrant guides. Not a cartographer or engraver himself, Colton's initial business practice mostly involved purchasing the copyrights of other cartographers, most notably David H. Burr, and reissuing them with updated engraving and border work. His first maps, produced in 1833, were based on earlier Burr maps and depicted New York State and New York City. Between 1833 and 1855 Colton would proceed to publish a large corpus of guidebooks and railroad maps which proved to be very popular. Here are two old Louisiana items. A Highway Map and Guide and a New Orleans Souvenir Folder. The Map is in great shape with no tears{ red stain on cover} This Map was printed in 1920 for Service of America and measures{ 18" by 22" Plus there is a New Orleans Souvenir Folder that is used but is great condition. The Folder is copyrighted in 1937 and is stamped and postmarked. Inside are 18 different scenes of New Orleans.

Interesting and detailed Pre Civil War county map. Shows chief cities and county seats. Extends from Arkansas to the Atlantic Ocean and from Tennessee to northern Florida. Beautifully executed with attractive hand color will frame nicely. Overall average condition with moderate ageing. Some typical toning and offset for an item of this age. Centerfold is intact. His official title being"Ingenieur-Geographe du Roi" Despite a prolific cartographic career and several important atlases to his name, little is actually known of his life and career. What is known is that much of his work was produced in collaboration with Danish royal Cartographer Louis Charles Desnos(fl. 1750- 1790) His most notable work is generally regarded to be his 1766 Atlas General.
