There is also a rough spot on the ba se looks like a tiny flake see photo. The white flower decoration is in great shape. This is from the ea rly 1960's we are guessing. Made in Japan. Sold as is. Of course, have folds, as it is a folding map, but it shows only minimal signs of having been used. It was brought to the mainland long before Hawaii became the 50th state. This map has many great features. Including maps of Honolulu and the Island of Oahu and the Hawaiian Islands. A key to streets with translation of street names, distances and road mileages, time chart, statistics, and more. My grandfather. Frank R. Marti, had been stationed in Pearl Harbor and other areas of the Pacific Ocean after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Two items both made in Hawaii. The Oahu shaped item is made of a resin composite material. It features Hawaii in the center of the(cup holder? and has tikis. Dolphins, palm trees, a grass hut. It also has some deer and people that look a little out of place. It measures 10 1/4 inches long and about 4 1/4 inches at the widest point. Has some minor surface wear but no cracks or chips. Maker is not indicated. It is marked made in Hawaii. The other item is a Hawaii Island map thermometer wall plaque. It has a label on the back showing made in Hawaii with a wood dust and resin composite. The make is not indicated. It has some white scuff marks abd a white crack in the top loop. The inset at the lower left shows the“WESTERN ISLANDS OF HAWAII” In recent years this antique map was beautifully framed with a double mat. The dark wood frame is simple; it has a beaded inner edge. The frames has a few small rubs/ scratches from handling. You can easily cover them by using Old English dark scratch oil. Because of glare and reflections on the glass. It is difficult to take excellent pictures- so feel free to contact us with any questions. There is a gift inscription on the back. It was a Christmas gift in 2000 thanking a family for their generosity and hospitality. The frame is approximately 17 3/4“ x 14 3/4“ x 1/2“ deep) On the front. The frame is 1/2“ wide.
