The publishing identification at bottom of chart says: London, Published at the Admiralty, 14TH June, 1963 under the superintendence of Rear Admiral EG Irving, CB, OBE, Hydrographer, crown copyright 1963. Last corrections to 1972. One hand correction to 1974. The chart is 28" x 40.5" 103cm x 70cm) Chart details coasts of South Carolina. Georgia, and Florida from Cape Romain to Cape Kennedy. Chart is in excellent condition. There is some minor wear to the corners of the paper and a little bit of rippling in the left margin near center crease. The very faint reddish hue that may appear in some of the photos is only a reflection from the red sweatshirt I was wearing while taking the photographs. ... moreI assure you it is NOT on the actual chart. The chart has been folded in the middle but it has been so little used that this crease could be minimized by a professional framer. Please look at all twelve photos carefully. As most details, flaws, and publishing info are visible in them. I am happy to answer any questions. NOTE: British Admiralty charts of this vintage are not only rare but extremely difficult to find in such excellent condition as this one. Many of the charts in my collection have never actually been used and so are very clean. They were printed on heavy. Description: A scarce first edition of John Thomson's 1817 map of the southeastern part of the United States. The map covers from the Mississippi River eastward to the Atlantic. Extending north as far as Lake Erie, and south to northern Florida and the Mississippi River Delta. The states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia are illustrated in full while Ohio, Illinois, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi have yet to appear as either states or territories. Florida was not yet part of the United States but would join 3 years after this map was printed in ... more1819. Thomson prepared this map during a transitional period of expansion shortly following the American Revolutionary War and is among most thorough treatments of this region prior to the U.S. Government Surveys. One oddity worth noting is the peculiar mountain range in northern Ohio- an area that is in reality quite flat. An inset in the upper left corner declares itself typical of the Hudson River and bears some resemblance to the Palisades. This map is particularly interesting for its detailed treatment of American Indian activity between the Mississippi and the Appalachian Mountains. American Indian nations are noted throughout, including the Creek, Seminole, Apache, Choctaw and Chickasaw, among others. Hunting grounds, villages and fortifications are also identified, sometimes accompanied by the date on which they were destroyed. Thomson additionally identifies the Wabash Company, the Jersey Company and the Illinois Company- joint stock ventures formed during the colonial period to acquire, sell, and colonize American Indian lands. This is an 1892 Railroad map of Georgia. It is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. Long considered the most beautiful of all 19th Century Railroad maps; this is the best of the best. You are looking at a map from Walker’s International Atlas. The map covers the whole of Georgia as it was in 1892. The maps themselves were the product of George Cram. A well know map publisher at the turn of the century. Walker took the base Cram’s maps and added hand colored lithography, giving a light Easter egg pastel richness that is eye stopping in expression and exact detail. We have acquired another copy from 1896. Worldcat.org does not show any 1892 editions. This means that the historical societies. Reference libraries and railroad collections, and museums have never seen these or are unaware of their existence or the importance these maps made on the future ... moreof Railroad maps in the United States and Canada. Possibly the title has caused it to be overlooked. Nowhere is to be found that this is a Railroad atlas by its title. It would fall through the cracks and be filed under the numerous names of regular atlases so popular during this time period. Each map measures 17 1/2 X 25 inches. The map in this listing is in fair overall condition. It is starting to split down center seam, presently tacked together. Truly this is an investment to cherish. One could frame it and sell at a later date, or one could make copies and recover the investment in short order. This finely detailed map shows lakes and rivers. From their pencil drawings Leslie and his team created wood engravings for the printing process. These images create an almost photographically vivid description of the panoramas. Siege of Savannah The Siege of Savannah was an encounter of the American Revolutionary War in 1779. The year before. The city of Savannah, Georgia had been captured by a British expeditionary corps under Lieutenant-Colonel Archibald Campbell. The siege itself consisted of a joint Franco-American attempt to retake Savannah from September 16, 1779 to October 18, 1779. On October 9, 1779, a major assault against the British siege works failed. During the attack, Polish Count Kazimierz Pulaski, fighting ... moreon the American side, was mortally wounded. With the failure of the joint American-French attack, the siege failed, and the British remained in control of Georgia until July 1782, close to the end of the war. The battle is much remembered in Haitian history; the Fontages Legion. Consisting of over 500"gens de couleur"free men of color from Saint-Domingue—fought on the French side. Henri Christophe, who later became king of independent Haiti, is thought to have been among these troops. In 2005 archaeologists with the Coastal Heritage Society and the LAMAR Institute discovered portions of the British fortifications at Spring Hill. The brunt of the combined French and American attack on October 9. 1779, was focused at that point. The find represents the first tangible remains of the battlefield. Auction item is a vintage and rare souvenir directional map from the 1967 first season of the Six Flags Over Georgia Theme Park outside Atlanta. Georgia. This map is complete and in good used condition with some modest surface wear. A few of the folds have separated from age and will need to be reconnected/reinforced on the blank reverse side. I have not attempted this and will leave it to the experts. This map is very remarkable in that it illustrates how modest in size the Park was when it opened. It depicts a single flume ride. No Chevy Show, no Sky Hook Ride, No western Section, a single skylift ride, no carousel, etc. It does depict The Sid and Marty Krofft in the USA Section.
