It is also a time capsule for documenting the change that has occurred in the region over the last 88 years. It measures approximately 20 by 12 inches in size. Two maps available. One map has a tear along fold line repaired with tape and a dime size hole on the edge of the right border. It's cost is $4.99. The second map is in excellent condition with no damage noted. It's cost is $9.99. If you want the less expensive map wait until I adjust the invoice before paying. Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying may be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Any damage that is above and beyond the norm will be disclosed. Payment through Paypal only. Payment is required within four days. I do combine multiple purchases for shipping. On the opposite side of the map each 7" x 4" section has some kind of information like rules of the road. Road signs, photographs of major road scenes, etc. Considering its age, I would consider this in good condition with little wear from folding and unfolding. Pennsylvania 21.5"x 13.5" doubled) is shown and the other side has 2 individual maps of Maryland/Delaware and Virginia/West Virginia(single maps are each 11.75'x13.5" The condition of these maps is good and they have some discoloration to the edges. See details and know that due to the extenuating age, small wear. dog ears, bends and slight discoloration are common. The actual map coloring is awesome though! Please see photos for individual map condition. These are wonderful for framing. From what I can tell. The book is probably from 1886 and this is based solely on the information in the atlas. This is an old Cities Service map of Delaware. Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. The population figures used are from 1940. It is in fairly good condition for its age. On the cover someone has underlined West Virginia with heavy pencil. There is a little spotting on the map. In the fourth scan(Shenandoah National Park Skyline Drive) you may be able to see some spots. They do go through to the back of the map. LARGE ORIGINAL 1857 DELAWARE & MARYLAND MAP FROM COLTON US ATLAS HAND COLORED
Antique map from Colton's Atlas of America. 1857 Original 157 year old antique map from Colton's Atlas of America. The scarce advertising atlas with numerous full and half page advertisements in addition to the maps. We purchased the atlas as a partial one with some of the advertisements removed. We've included an image of the title page(not included as part of this auction) below, just for informational purposes. The overall size of the page is an impressive 18.5" x 16" The map was printed and then hand watercolored to show the various counties and other divisions. It provides a fascinating snapshot view of the area's geographical details at the time of publication 157 years ago. Condition is very good. And much nicer than the image would suggest. There is some modest age-darkening around the edges, otherwise the ... moremap is very clean. It's not as dark as the photo would suggest. There are some light shadows of lettering from the advertisement that was on its opposite page at one time. Barely visible. The reverse side is blank. See the image for condition details. But frankly, the image really doesn't do it any justice. We are/will be offering many of these maps on eBay. As well as some of the better advertisements. This auction features an original antique. Highly detailed, hand-colored lithographic map of Ridley township and Tinicum township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, which is now suburban Philadelphia. The map was extracted from the Atlas of Philadelphia and Environs, published in 1877 by G.M. Hopkins. and which was in unsalvageable condition. The last two photos validate the origin of the map and the publishing date. This map is very unique and illustrates an important part of the history of Delaware County. PA. Landowners within each of the two townships are identified and the size and boundaries of their property are illustrated. The map has an inscription at the bottom. Entered according to Act of Congress in year 1877 by G.M. Hopkins in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington" This map has a page size of 13-1/4" ... morewide x 17-3/8" long.
