Cuyahoga County, Ohio, printed more than 111 years ago. The map locates the Glenville Race Track and the nearby Roadside Club. Where race spectators and participants wined and dined. It also shows the Cleveland, Painesville& Eastern(CP&E) an interurban electric railway line which ran east from Cleveland to Painesville, through Glenville and Collinwood. Other named places and features on the map include Lake Shore Boulevard. The shoreline of Lake Erie, Harvard Street, Houghton Avenue, Glenville Town Hall, Episcopal Church, the Marble& Shattuck Chair Company, Superior Park, Parkwood Boulevard, Lucas Machine Tool Company, Glenville Depot, and the Lake Shore& Michigan Southern Railway— the first rail connection between New York City and Chicago. The map also labels lots and subdivisions. With the names of property owners and realty companies. The Glenville Race Track, on St. Clair Street, was best known as the site of harness races and had been built in 1870 by the Cleveland Driving Park Company. Five years after this map was printed, Glenville mayor Frederick Goff declared betting illegal, and the track was abandoned. The map was published by H.B. Stranahan& Company. Cleveland and is copyrighted © 1903. It measures a generous 15-3/4" x 26-1/2" And is drawn on a scale of 400 feet to the inch. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean. With no marks. Rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side, and there is a horizontal fold at the center, as issued. The scans below give a closer look: Today Glenville is a neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland. When this map was printed it was a small village just beyond the eastern edge of the city limits. The Leipzig Geographical Institute of Wagner& Debes was an important German cartographic printer and publisher of cartographic work in the 19th- and early 20th century. Established in 1835 as a lithographic press by Eduard Wagner. Who worked with cartography publisher Karl Baedeker. In 1872 Heinrich Wagner, son of Eduard Wagner, took over, moved the presses to Leipzig, and established his own publishing firm in collaboration with Ernst Debes.

Up for sale is an ANTIQUE TOPOGRAPHIC map of"CLEVELAND. OHIO" It also includes Akron, Ohio and parts of Pennsylvania(New Castle) Printed by the Army Map Service. Corps of Engineers, Department of the Army. Edition of 1950. This map measures approximately 29 x 24 inches. Including the border area. On the reverse side, are 4 gray and white maps- Cleveland, Ohio& Vicinity, Akron, Ohio& Vicinity, Youngstown, Ohio& Vicinity and New Castle, Pennsylvania& Vicinity. The map has specific details to it and shows various attributes- different road surfaces. Buildings, barnes, greenhouses, railroads, national boundaries, State boundaries, towns, woods, vineyards, marshes, mine tunnels, steep slopes, tunnels, bridges, etc. Map is generally in Good condition. It has been stored in a roll for many years. So it naturally rolls up ... morenow. The map has some wear and browning. There are some creases and tears around the edges of the paper and other stains along the edges. There are other creases and dings here and there. As well. This map is a great piece of history! 2002 Street Map of Cleveland& Cuyahoga County. Ohio by Universal Map(r49) This map provides a great look at this area as it was 12 years ago. It is a great way to see and contrast the changes and growth that has occurred since 2002. Please be aware that these Road Maps and brochures are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders and fold lines of the maps may also have tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been ... morestored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Any damage that is above and beyond the norm will be disclosed Payment through Paypal only. Payment is required within four days. I do combine multiple purchases for shipping. If you have bought an item and are going to bid on a future item(s) you must let me know if you want them shipped together. I usually ship by Parcel Post or First Class Postage in order to save money on shipping costs. This does mean that often the delivery time will take longer. Brief History: The Battle of Lake Erie took place on September 10. 1813, with Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry commanding the American fleet. Perry was forced to abandon his flagship Lawrence. He was rowed through heavy gunfire to the U.S. Brig Niagara. From which he continued the attack. His victory over the British ensured American control of the Great Lakes during the War of 1812. Later. Niagara was sunk for preservation and was raised out of Misery Bay and rebuilt in 1913. Niagara’s home port is in Erie Pennsylvania; docked at the Erie Maritime Museum wharf and sails the Great Lakes in the summer as a sail training vessel. All sales final. Thank you.
