Original vintage atlas(not a modern reproduction) in rebound binding of green buckram cloth. With gilt stamping to spine, very clean with light wear only. In the process of rebinding, the gutter edges of the plates have been trimmed, with a few bound in at the decorative border. New end pages. One map plate has rubbed area with small hole, several short tears, one long, all mended with cellophane tape; title page with several short tears with wear from handling. Overall lightly age toned paper, very little foxing, some signs from handling but overall pleasingly clean. All items in order with the large linen backed map of Rutland. Sized 28 x 30 inches, is separated from the book; ... moreit has some paper curling at the creases, some small paper loss also and a five inch tear. Some conservation work could greatly improve the faults, if desired, or as-is, a still impressive map. 1879 BEERS COLOR ATLAS OF RUSH COUNTY(PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS BELOW) This is a wonderful historical American document of life in Indiana during the later half of the 19th Century. Rush County was named in Honor of Dr. Benjamin Rush. A signer of the Declaration of Independence. This hardback leather and fabric 1879 Atlas contains beautiful hand colored maps, incredible illustrations of the community and homesteads, and gives details and statistics about the people of Rush County. There are also some hand colored maps of the USA& World. The book measures 17.25" x 14.5" It is complete, with no separation and an intact spine, and no missing pages or tears. The front and back covers has some wear, and there is some yellowing and foxing on some of the some of the pages, but overall this is a fabulous example. Making this a very interesting reference in addition Individuals names are mentioned and their trade i.e. Beyl, Geo. Overall fair condition. Spine is broken and front cover is not attached. Inside pages have soiling. Some staining, dirt rub marks, the first inside blank page has extensive wrinkling with an approximately 1" tear near center located at the spine and also a 1" tear along the bottom edge. Multiple edge nicks a piece is missing from the upper right hand corner of this blank page as well. Light pencil writing with possible owners name and date of 1887. Title page has some little edge tears, nicks, and some creases. Index page has some dirt finger rub marks. Following pages have some edge nicks, tanning, some corner bends, some stain spots, I see a page which has a large piece missing from the bottom border however, it does not effect the map, and the opposite side of the page is blank. Extremely RARE Atlas published by FW Beers& Co. NY, 1875. This is an original publication, not a reissue. Contains colored maps of Barrett, Coolbaugh, Chestnut Hill, Eldred, Hamilton, Jackson, Middle Smithfield, Paradise, Price, Pocono, Polk, Ross, Stroud, Smithfield, Tobyhanna, and Tunkhannock Townships. Some of these are tri-fold maps. Together with over 30 etchings of notable houses and buildings throughout the County. For those of you who may not be familiar with a typical Beers Atlas. These publications were generally compiled in the mid-1870's shortly after the Civil War. They not only document principal roads, railroads, and streams in each covered Township but also the location of houses with the name of the owner at the time. Also shown are noteworthy businesses(such as quarries, grist mills) schools, cemeteries, and other ... moreimportant features. These atlases represent very important historical references and are often cited in research. This hardcover publication measures approximately 16" x 13" Overall fair condition. Back cover is not attached but front cover and all pages are still bound. Cover has water staining mostly along bottom(see photo) Many pages have triangular water stain in lower right corner(with book closed) While evident on the World. US, and overall county maps in the front portion of the atlas, the staining is faint on each of the all important Township maps. It generally does not extend beyond the Township map borders and can be concealed with matting if the prints were to be framed. Except for said staining, the Township maps are all in good shape; no significant tears, creases, or marring. The atlas contains 100 pages The back of the cover has very minor water staining. Embossed printing and embellishment is still evident but gold gilding(if ever present) is absent. Historically. This is a significant publication which should be rebound. UP for sale is one of several old and original maps I have on eBay from the 1872 Beers Atlas of Essex County. Massachusetts, From actual Surveys by and under the direction of, and published by, F.W. Beers, 93& 95 Maiden Lane, New York” The maps show numerous family names and residences. Businesses, lakes, rivers, and other topographical features, plus railroads, railroad stations and other buildings, and more. Most of these maps are in good or very good condition, and I’ve tried to note any defects on each map. They’re NOT pristine or mint, and all have some surface soiling and some faded color, natural for maps this old. Most of the maps have some folds or crimps or tiny edge tears, but not affecting the image of the map. All will look great in a frame! Please look at all of the photos of each map with the enlarged view. The map for ... moresale in this listing is Medford. Massachusetts. Prominent landowner names include Hall, Gillacutty, Wright, Porter, Copeland and many more. Features include Tufts College, the Mystic River, Mystic Pond, Mystic Park, and the Boston and Lowell Railroad. The map measures about 12 3/4 x 15 3/4" And has some condition issues. It is very rough around the edges, especially the right side, which has some tiny bits of missing paper and a few small tears. Although the central part of the map is in very good shape, both sides have some crimps and soiling, as you can see in the scans. There are also pinholes on the four corners and some stains on the lower left corner. I tried this map in a frame, and it looks pretty good. Please see our other Essex County maps in our eBay store.
