Up for bid is this historic commemorative pin for the Texas State Fair of 1913 at Dallas. TX. The printing on the front reads: STATE FAIR of TEXAS" DALLAS" OCT. 18- NOV. 2. 1913" around a star with fairgrounds and grandstand pictured. C o n s i d e r i n g i t s s o o n t o b e 1 0 0 y e a r s o l d, t he pin is still in pretty good condition-has tiny raised bumps on its surface. Which appear to be its original finish. One cannot see them per se, but can feel them when running the thumb over the surface and they reflect points of light. The back of the pin has a cardboard insert which reads"Badges. Mexico and New Mexico, etc. Map was published by A.J. Johnson of New York entered according to an Act of Congress in 1866. An interesting period of Texas history in the first year after the end of the Civil War, this map demonstrates the well organized counties in eastern Texas in sharp contrast to the largely open areas of western Texas designated as: Presidio, Young Bexar, and El Paso. Occasional roads and sites along the roads are noted(ie: Lower Presidio road, Upper Presidio roads, Lareda Road, waterholes including Wild China waterhole and Mustang waterhole, etc. Railroad lines are shown in the state as small printed tracks- often without the railroad ... morename. Antique Eyeglasses with Button Chain and Case 1910's Texas Coin Purse
As you look through these eyeglasses. imagine what stories they've seen! This lot of small and personal antiques include eyeglasses and case(found together) and a coin pouch. THE EYEGLASSES One glass has a small chip to the inside at top as pictured. The glasses appear to be firmly fastened. They have a slight rattle as you hold them. Expected for the design, but they don't feel threatened to fall apart. The chain is workable and collapses well into the button. Given the age of the chain and it's function. It's remarkable that it works. The chain does have dirt and it's easy to kink, so it can be frustrating too. In general, stretching the chain out and freeing any kinks will retract the chain quickly and easily. The button that the retractable chain is attached to reads like'Ketcham& McDougall PAT FEB 24.03 New ... moreYork' At the bottom where the pin attaches, it appears to say April 16, 10. THE CASE The case is nearly just metal now. Most of the original decorative wrapping has deteriorated. There are hints that the original color was like a gold wood-grain design. The front of the case is missing much of the information. But it appears that the address was in Texas. On the bottom of the case. There's a hallmark featuring the letter A and below printed PAT FEB909. I am assuming that this indicates it was made in 1909 or shortly after. THE POUCH The included pouch has no recognizable markings. This is more or less a bonus. Something we found along with the glasses that appear to be from the about same time period. The inside lining has deteriorated to just threads. By itself, it's rather unassuming, but together with the eyeglasses, the pouch can add a great touch to for a small display.
