Up for bid is an Antique Mitchell's Map. It's The National Map of the American Republic United States of North America. Published by S. Augustus Mitchell- drawn by J.H. Young- engraved by J.H. Brightly in 1843. The map isn't in perfect condition and was found in the rafters of a basement. This is a beautiful piece of American History. It measures 39" X 49" and is hand colored. Size/ Format In millimetres(and inches) Sheet: 364 x 262(14¼" X 10 ¼" Margins range from 14mm- 26mm(½" 1" The maps are all printed on one integral sheet with a fold in the center. This fold becomes nearly invisible when the map is laid flat. If the map is framed. The fold becomes completely invisible unless inspected very closely. Condition The maps are in very good condition. The colors are bright and there is almost no age-toning. There is an occasional spot or unobtrusive mark in the margins of a few ... moreof the maps. The scanned images are un-edited(except for size) and are of the actual map you will receive. I've noticed that some of the scans look a little blurry or grainy. The Mississippi Valley, Caribbean, and Mexico. It was made to illustrate the gold routes of the Spanish during their plunder of the Inca and Aztec Empires. The large vignette in the Atlantic portion of the map depicts a large gold mine operation with the natives filling a chest for the Europeans with the riches of their land. Inn the bottom left of the map is a fierce battle scene between many ships. Uncommon 19th century scientific map. In near VG or better condition. Some minor age wear but the image remains clean and very presentable[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting antique map. Any minor defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. Sheet measures c. 8 1/2" W x 11 1/8" H. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. Please look carefully and make your decision knowing this antique image is nice. But it is not in perfect"like new" condition. However, with whatever flaws it possesses, it remains entirely worthy of ownership and inclusion in any related collection. We feel it will prove very pleasing to its new owner.
