Antique NORTH AMERICA MAP 1855 engrav. by J.H. Colton: hanging mohogany tray
Without Canada and 18 states to go Those British Possessions were not given Dominion status until 1867. Florida and Texas were only a decade old with California a mere five year old. Nebraska Territory ate up a third of the Mid-west and Alaska was Russian America. In South America. Colombia was named New Grenada. Canada wasn’t officially named until 1867 narrowly missing being named Victoriana and Borealia. Though Cartier called it Canada in 1535 extending as far south as Louisiana(chauvinist Frenchman) The purchaser of this history chart may want to sit for a long exploration adventure. This mahogany framed glass enclosed map is intended to be a hanging piece an it measures 19" from handle to handle and 13.5" wide. There is a repair on the lower left corner of the frame and a minor stain in upper Pacific.
