Wonderfully detailed and well-preserved early 19th century folio sheet map of the southern US region. In VG to VG+. Mostly clean condition. Some light offsetting in water areas and light scattered foxing. Otherwise map remains clean and quite well-preserved overall, very pleasing visually. Cary's maps were issued in a variety of coloring levels. This example with full block color heightened in outline and with the sea area colored displaying the highest and visually most pleasing. 1836 VINTAGE FLORIDA SEMINOLE INDIAN WAR ANTIQUE MAP - DADE'S MASSACRE
This is a replica copy of a map detailing the events of Dade's Massacre near Bushnell. Florida, which helped launch the 2nd Seminole Indian War. This folded map is March 20th, 1836, and shows landmarks as well as military forts situated between Tampa Bay and Palatka. On December 28, 1835, 108 soldiers under the command of Major Francis L. Dade were attacked by Seminole Indian warriers, led by chiefs Alligator, Micanopy and Jumper. Only one of the soldiers lived to tell the tale. This map traces the route of Dade's troups from their departure at Fort Brooke heading northeasterly towards Fort King. This map is an interesting piece of Florida's history. The map has shows detail of some of the larger rivers and lakes.
