Antique Civil War Battle Ground Map Printing Plates Lot of 5 Rare Tennessee
This auction is for a lot of 5 Printing plates(Newspaper? of Civil War maps. These are set on wood blocks. I tried to take a picture of each one with a picture in the mirror and as it is where it might be a little easier to read. Here is a brief description of each: First is the most detailed map. The Tennessee River runs through the plate. It is numbered by areas or counties I am guessing. It has"McCord Cin" at the bottom of the plate. There are tons of areas mapped as cities. I believe that many of these have had name changes over the years as I lived in that area for a few years. pic 2 and 3) Next is the slightly less detailed map. It shows some of the lines in the Civil War. In the last 2 pictures you can see where I noted with the pen tip where some of the lines are marked. I see Bragg. Breckenridge, Sherman Hardee and Polk's ... moreLines marked. The plate is marked"Battle Ground" in the middle of the plate. It also has McCord on the bottom. pics 4 and 5) The next one is a larger one with less detail. It has James. Nelson, Rudd, and Hardin Ferry marked. It also has compass settings(pics 8 and 9) The smallest one has an impression of a wall. Mill and ditch on the map(pic 6 and 7) These are extremely rare pieces. I picked these up from an estate sale. This antique authentic map shows Johnson's RUSSIA by Johnson& Ward The map was printed on newsprint paper which has yellowed and has some areas of discoloration and age staining. Which can be viewed in the photographs. There are also small tears at some edges, folded corners. It measures just over 18 inches by about 13.75 inches. However. It's a wonderful old piece, and would be great framed, for a collector of antique maps. I am selling all of the maps from the Atlas. In separate auctions. UP FOR PURCHASE IS THIS VERY COOL LARGE ANTIQUE MAP OF NEW YORK WHICH IS ORIGINAL AND IS HAND COLORED. THIS MAP IS LARGE AND MEASURES 23 1/2 X 15 INCHES. THIS IS REALLY A NEAT PIECE OF HISTORY. THE CONDITION IS DESCRIBED ABOVE IN DETAIL AND I HAVE ATTACHED 12 PICTURES FOR YOUR REVIEW. The map indicates on the very bottom left"Entered according to the act of congress in the year 1867 by S Augusta Mitchell JR in the clerks office of the district court for the eastern district of Pennsylvania" The maps also indicates it was drawn and engraved by W.H. Gamble Philadelphia. This would look very cool in an office or in your home. This is a neat piece of history and for paper and produced in 1867 it is in nice condition.
