One side has The US at time of the CIVIL WAR 1861. and the other side has USA WAR OF 1812 and EASTERN US IN 1825. Overall good condition with some damage on one corner and a tear at center top. Please look at the pictures. Sold in as ... moreis condition. If you have any questions please ask and I will do my best to answer them. Antique 1864 Map: WEST INDIES, Bermuda, Jamaica, Civil War Era
This map is from Johnson's New Family Atlas. Published by Johnson& Ward in 1864. This antique authentic map shows Johnson's WEST INDIES by Johnson& Ward The map was printed on newsprint paper which has yellowed and has some areas of discoloration and age staining. Which can be viewed in the photographs. There are also small tears at some edges. Please note in particular some water staining on the edges(pictured) It measures just over 18 inches by about 26 inches. However. It's a wonderful old piece, and would be great framed, for a collector of antique maps. I am selling all of the maps from the Atlas. In separate auctions. I would be very happy to save on shipping costs by combining items. Please email with questions.

Antique 1856 German Atlas Map Book Pre-Civil War E.Von Sydow's 19th Century Old
Antique Atlas This auction is for a really rare and very old antique atlas and book. The book was printed in Germany and is written in Germany. But it has a ton of really nice, quality maps. The cover page indicates it’s titled E. Von Sydow’s Schul-Atlas in Zwei Und Vierzig Karten and it’s dated 1856. The atlas focuses mostly on Germany but the entire world is covered here. As you can see. It’s very primitive and there are different state borders including a large Nebraska territory and Indian Territory. Great piece and in good condition with some staining throughout and general wear. The very first couple pages look like indexes and it might be missing the first page but it’s hard to tell. Otherwise, it looks complete. Measures about 6½" x 9¼" Guaranteed old! I charge a 5.1% sales tax to all Wisconsin residents- sorry. ... moreIt's mandatory! Thanks for bidding! ANTIQUE Collection of Pre-Civil War Lithograph Prints and Map POINSETT HOTEL SC
This is an amazing collection of historical pieces that date before the Civil War( Late 1840's- 1850's) I helped my mother move over the past 4 months after 40 years. We found some amazing things that had been tucked away until now and this collection was a real find! The most incredible thing about all of these pieces is that they once hung on the walls of the Historic POINSETT HOTEL in Downtown Greenville. South Carolina and all were done before the Civil War. If you look at many of the pictures, you will see inserts that were put with each lithograph print that states" Property of the Poinsett Hotel" before the piece was framed. As you can see from the pictures, some of the prints have shifted and they are all quite dusty but I chose not to clean or repair in any way these pieces so as to not devalue them in any way. ... moreI would love for someone who truly loves history and the historical significance of these pieces to either leave them as they are in their very old state or invest the money to have them restored. My mother remembered that her father( my grandfather) purchased these MANY years ago at auction when the Poinsett Hotel was going through an ownership change and they have been stored away until now. The Westin Poinsett Hotel now stands in the original location and is a destination stop for many that visit the Upstate of South Carolina. All of the history and prestige is just as prominent today as it was many years ago. Included is a COLTEN'S Map of South Carolina( Printed in 1855) If you look at the insert that was written by whoever framed the piece. It states" Property of the Poinsett Hotel, Map of South Carolina, Printed 1852" but after consulting with an antiques expert, she pointed out that this map was actually printed in 1855 and that whoever wrote out the insert, incorrectly wrote the wrong year. Either way, it's very old and once hung on the walls of this prestigious hotel. All of the print is very small and it is easily understandable that someone misread th

Store Keyword Search Frequently Asked Questions Are those odd lines on the image a defect in the print? Antique prints often have faint vertical or horizontal lines visible. Rather than a defect. They are a fascinating historical artifact of the popular engraving process employed by newspapers at the time of the Civil War? During the war, newspaper publishers needed a method where they could get the illustrations produced by newspaper artists in the battlefield to the American public as quickly as possible. To do this. The illustration was divided into sections usually two inches square. Double page prints were divided into as many as 40 sections. The section was traced onto a wood block. Engravers cut into the wood with various tools creating a mirror image of their section of the illustration. The blocks were then screwed together, recreating the original illustration. Newspapers were not made from wood pulp as they are today. Instead, they were printed on a sturdy

CIVIL WAR GEORGIA * ANTIQUE MAP (original, made in 1866) * WITH FANTASTIC IMAGES
Antique Map of the Civil War South(original) THE STATE OF GEORGIA With Fantastic Engravings* Made in 1866- This great antique map was printed in the year 1866. Less than a year after the Civil War ended. It shows the entire state of Georgia in great detail, with hundreds of small engraved topographical features and place-names. What makes this map outstanding. Though, is not just the great detailing, but especially the fantastic engraved image which makes up the top quarter of the map. In the center of this image is the coat of arms of Georgia, to the left of which is a scene from the state's early history, with Native Americans greeting explorers. And to the right is a scene of modern(1866) Georgia, with steamboat and locomotive, and well dressed whites strolling while black workers do the labor. It is this final touch. The adding of ... moreengraved scenes, that makes this map a classic. This technique was much more common in the maps of the 16th through 18th centuries, but was a dying art form a century and a half ago, when this map was made. This antique map. With its incredibly detailed engraving, is a very displayable piece of cartographic art! A great piece of Southern history. It was made four years before Georgia became the last Confederate state readmitted to the Union. This antique map measures approximately 14-inches-by-10-inches. This map was made as a wood engraving. So called because the plate it was printed from was made from an engraved block of wood- as opposed to, for example, a“steel engraving” or a“copper engraving” which were printed from directly engraved metal plates) The item being offered in this auction is a map which was printed in Harper’s Weekly a century and a half ago. This map is in quite good condition overall and has an excellent appearance. But there are a few small imperfections. There is small area of browning in the upper right corner margin,
Civil War East Virginia Fortress Monroe Richmond 1862 nice antique map
Map of the Seat of War in Eastern Virginia. From Fortress Monroe to Richmond(Prince George. James River, Norfolk& Petersborough Railroad) Issued 1862. Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper A visually appealing antique wood engraved map. It is an original map extracted from a scarce 19th century illustrated popular periodical. Offered for the outstanding modern appeal of the printed image. In Good to Good+[or better] condition: displays moderate uniform age toning as typical(particularly for images printed on this type of paper during this era) There may be light scattered spotting or foxing. Possibly small minor edge repairs on the back with small pieces of archival tape, some waviness to the sheet, light creasing which is not offensive to the eye, etc. Any defects may hopefully be clearly seen in the scanned image. Please examine ... morethe scan closely as the picture forms a central part of the description. There is a zoom feature so you can see close up. note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] There is text on the back because it was extracted from an illustrated periodical from the 19th century. Great fun to look at both sides. The only way to own this image as an original printed sheet from the 19th century. Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper(like similar illustrated journals around this time) appeared to use a wood pulp paper. This paper is now a bit fragile along the edges. And must be handled carefully. We will ship this print inside an archival plastic sleeve, gently rolled within a sturdy tube. Overall. The image area remains clean and very attractive. Unique and fascinating old map entirely worthy of adding to a private album or collection. Hanging for display or presenting to someone as a present. Sheet measures c. 15 7/8" H x 21 5/8" W. Printed area measures c. 14" H x 20" W Original fold lines as issued. 81263] Everything we offer is guaranteed to be an authentic original antique item as described. We stand behind everything we s
