Published by The Philadelphia Inquirer Company. Map measures 22 by 14½ inches. This is a two page map. On the back are two separate maps of Utah and Nevada. Overall map is in fair- condition. It is known that Mitchell found the quality of early geography text books to be lacking, and determined that he would write and publish better works. Mitchell’s first cartographic work was the re-issue of Anthony Finley’s New American Atlas in 1831. Issued in serial format from 1818 to 1822 and as a complete work from 1823 onward. This is an original 1881 map of California that measures a good size 19" x 25" and is in very good condition. Features very fine detail. The paper is high quality and there is no foxing. Mildew, or other issues. It has some creasing to the very edge at top left& top right but these could be easily pressed out by any good framing shop. There are the original fold marks as it was folded in quarters and was an insert in the 1881 Rand McNalley Atlas. The paper is in such good condition because it has been inside the Atlas its whole 133 year life. Superb California history piece that will look outstanding in your home, office or business. Larousse) This was included as a plate in a beautifully illustrated edition published in France in the 1920's Pierre Larousse was born in Toucy. Where his father was a blacksmith. At the age of sixteen he won a scholarship at the teaching school in Versailles. Four years later. He returned to Toucy to teach in a primary school, but became frustrated by the archaic and rigid teaching methods. In 1840 he moved to Paris to improve his own education by taking free courses. From 1848 to 1851 he taught at a private boarding school, where he met his future wife, Suzanne Caubel.Together, in 1849, they published a French language course for children. In 1851 he met Augustin Boyer, another disillusioned ex-teacher, ... moreand together they founded the Librairie Larousse et Boyer(Larousse and Boyer Bookshop) They published progressive textbooks for children.
