Note the details of crouched winged bird/griffon like animals on the finial and the pineapple top. The rim below the lid is set with classical male and female figures in grecian or roman robes 1 1/2" high.cast in fine relief. The body of the teapot is gracefully etched with realistic foliage and leaves.then offset with geometric patterns and finally styleized flowers in the aesthetic movement fashion.Also ... morenote the quality of design as the whole of the body has a slightly"frosted" otr minutely textured finish to the top and bottom panels offset with a smooth or glossy band diagonal(in center)from foot to handle. Up for sale is a lovely vintage Reed& Barton sterling silver serving plate or shallow server. It weighs in at a nice 174 grams. And measures 9 1/2" across. The decorative floral edge is vey nice, and would happily show itself off on your table. It's marked on the back with Reed& Barton sterling X 531 9 1/2 in. It has a tiny ding in the smooth outer rim, but is not really noticible, and certainly does not detract from the piece in any way. I have not cleaned or polished it, but it would really polish up nicely! I am putting a decent reserve on this item of $150.00. Vintage REED & BARTON Taunton, MA Silver Plate SAUCE BOAT with attached TRAY
This is a vintage REED& BARTON of Taunton. MA, SILVER PLATE SAUCE BOAT with underliner TRAY attached. On the bottom below the manufacturer engraving is the number 18. The tray is about 8 x 4 1/2 inches overall. The sauce boat is also about 8 inches overall from tip of spout to end of handle. It is 6 1/2 from tip of spout to edge where handle attaches and about 2 1/2 inches across. At the surface of the tray where the boat is attached, there is some flaking of the silverplate which I tried to capture in the closeups. It has some scratches and wear consistent with use. I have no idea of the vintage of this piece, I would guess early to mid 1900. If you have any info, I would love to hear about it. This is from the estate of an older English couple. Listing a wonderful Reed& Barton antique(approx 110+ years old. I believe) silverplate footed covered casserole or tureen. It is is very nice condition for its age. The casserole bowl itself appears to have been used many many times without a bowl insert- it is scratched and there is considerably plate wear in knicks from spoons. Outside needs a really good polishing. The lid is nice and shiny inside, but the outside unfortunately appears to be missing a layer of silver. I would guess overcleaning. There is no bowl insert. To give you an idea. I have an old Fiesta bowl that fits perfectly! It is 7" in diameter and 2" tall. FL residents add 6.5% sales tax. Take a look at my other items from time to time. This auction is for a BEAUTIFUL Reed& Barton turquoise blue enamel on silver plate atomic style candy dish. It is triangle shaped propped up on 2 angled feet at the long pointed end. It measures approx. 7 inches long by 4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches high at the slanted up highest point. It is stamped Reed& Barton 94 into the silver on the bottom. The color of the enamel is more turquoise blue then the regular blue it appears like in the pictures. The enamel at the very bottom is slightly pocked underneath the"glaze" in the very bottom of the center of the dish. Please email with any questions before bidding. This bowl makes a wonderful accessory in any decor but really shines as a focal point in a mid-century modern or contemporary setting. It has been in my family since the fifties and my parents may have bought it new. But I'm not sure. In any case, it was used over the years to hold candy and nuts and therefor does show some wear. It still presents itself beautifully and receives many compliments, but it is evident that there are tiny surface scratches when you look closely and the plating is thin in small areas. If you wanted to display this as a museum piece then it's a great candidate for re-plating, as there are no dents or deep scratches.
