I estimate the publication date to be either the last few years of the 1880's or the first years of the 1890's. The High School lot is where the"new" Los Angeles High School on Hill Street was constructed between 1887 and 1891. By the early 1990's, the cemetery on Ft. Moore Hill was largely or entirely gone. Negro Alley, near the Plaza, had been renamed, or incorperated into, Los Angeles Street in the 1870's, but may have remained on the map because of public familiarity with that name. You are bidding on a great Lithographed View of Los Angeles. California. It was drawn by Charles Koppel in 1853 when Los Angeles consisted of a few adobe homes scattered around the Mission. The Litho was done by Sarony, Major& Knapp for the Pacific RR Survey published in 1855. It is said to be the Earliest known printed view of Los Angeles. The church in the left center is"Our Lady of the Angels" Roman Catholic Church built 1818-1822. The view is from a bird's-eye perspective so you can see all of the buildings of the period. Not quite the way it looks today. This Tinted Lithograph is 8-7/8 inches by 11'3/8 inches(the full page) and the actual Image size is 5-3/4 inches by 8-3/4 inches plus margins. This great item is in VG condition with foxing/browning on the edges and a few spots on the image as can be seen on the ... morescans. There are mounting hinge remnants on the back side as can be seen in the scans. This is the entire page as was carefully removed from the Rail Road Surveys. It has not been trimmed.
