Rodgers. The Topography is the work of R. D. Cutts and A. F. Rodgers. The hydrography was accomplished by a party under the command of James Alden. The whole was originally produced in 1863 under the supervision of A. D. Bache, one of the most prolific and influential heads of the early Coast Survey. There are no markings that we see that indicate its a reprint. When magnified the paper has a rough texture not smooth. The ink is solid not dotted. There is some staining and or discoloration along the center fold towards the middle upper center. In the same area there is also a spot that appears to have been wet it is about an inch wide.

This map is copyrighted 1891. It is from a 1895 Rand McNally Enlarged Business Atlas. McNally did not update their city maps each year as they did the state railroad maps. It measures close to 28 X 20 inches. Would look fantastic framed under glass. According to worldcat.org. There are only a few maps in the reference collections from this atlas. No other atlas exists from this year, so the maps are a treasure to behold, and great investment. Possibly the only known copies. On the Sacramento River Delta— a town laid out by Colonel Jonathan D. Stevenson on a land grant he had purchased in 1849. This terrific map is printed on thick paper and indicates a lot that was being considered for commercial use. The map shows the real estate lots around the intersections of Chestnut, Lombard, Divisadero, and Scott Streets in the Marina District. The lots in the area were indicated as either residential or commercial use. The shaded lot with diagonal lines was being considered for a change from residential use to commercial use. The lower right corner of the map has a perspective of the area shown in detail. This was some kind of San Francisco land use commission map.
