Texas Galveston City Bay 1852 by Mitchell antique engraved hand color map Map of the State of Texas Issued 1852. Philadelphia by S.A. Mitchell Fine original ... moreantique engraved map. Printed in the mid-19th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. With original hand color. In Fair to Good or better condition. Light minor age wear, small soiling or staining and uniform toning but overall very presentable and attractive[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting antique map which will look nice when displayed. Sheet measures c. 8 5/8" H x 11 1/4" W. Printed area measures c. 7 7/8" H x 10 1/2" W. 34966] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. Please look carefully and make your decision knowing this antique image is nice. But it is not in perfect"like new" condition. However, with whatever flaws it possesses, it remains entirely worthy of ownership and inclusion in any related collection. We feel it will prove very pleasing to its new owner. We stand behind everything we sell. Everything we offer is guaranteed to be an authentic original antique item as described. We do not sell modern reproductions. Please visit our. 1852 Stansbury Map of the Great Salt Lake to Fort Leavenworth Route(Colorado. Utah, Wyoming, Kansas WE SELL ONLY ORIGINAL ANTIQUE MAPS- NOT REPRODUCTIONS Title: Map of a Reconnoissance between Fort Levenworth and the Missouri River. And the Great Salt Lake in the Territory of Utah, made in 1849 and 1850… Description: It had been a daring feat of exploration. Succeeding where the mountain men had all failed, and by means of his map. Stansbury had painted at least one more bold stroke into the unfinished portrait of the national landscape. William Goetzmann This monumental map details Stansbury's seminal 1852 trek from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to the Great Salt Lake region of Utah. It is considered to be the first accurate survey of the Great Basin and the southern Rocky Mountains, as well as a cornerstone achievement in the mapping of ... morethe American West. The first westerner to visit the Great Basin was most likely Silvestre Vélez de Escalante in the 1776, however, Escalante, who visited Utah Lake to the south, never truly laid eyes on Great Salt Lake. That honor would fall to unnamed trappers and mountain men traveling the region in search of furs and other tradable commodities. Unfortunately, few of these were literate. The first scientific expedition to this area was headed up by Fremont in 1843. Daunted by the season and climate, Fremont never circumnavigated the lake. That task fell to Howard Stansbury who, in 1849, was assigned by Congress to survey the Great Salt Lake, the Utah Valley, and the emigrant roads passing through the region. Stansbury, working with Gunnison, Carrington, and others, took about two years to complete their survey before presenting it to Congress in 1852. This map was part of that presentation. Covering the region from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to the Great Basin, Utah, Sansbury's map is the result of a monumental feat of exploration and scientific tenacity. Includes the modern day states of Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. The detail throughout is extraordinary, ident

Map California Gold Fields 1852, Article on Region & Towns, Leavitt's Almanack
We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years. As we have now discovered back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin. NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Hiriam Carey was the Dublin carriage driver for Mark Twain and my Grandmother was a seamstress who also made costumes for the likes of Amelia Earhart and Joseph Linden Smith during their stays in Dublin. Though there may not have been a lot of money to purchase luxuries' or non essential items sometimes the family was given small things for either payment or in appreciation. Things were acquired to use not look at and things were handed down from ... moregeneration to generation. My family interacted with Dublin summer people through odd jobs and the piano playing of both my mother and grandmother. We have early sheet music from the days when the ladies played for summer theatre shows. My mother and grandmother were founders of a local button club and since my grandmother was a seamstress who made costumes for the Dublin Art Colony plays many of their special collected buttons were remnants of other peoples' purchases. My father worked for as a window clerk at the Keene Post Office selling stamps for many years. He was able to buy mint stamps and after marketing promotions for newly released stamps were long over he was given permission to take home the now obsolete promotional material. Here we have an Almanac approx. 5 1/2" X 7 1/2" with 47 pages. This issue contains all that one would expect. Plus a map of the California Gold Fields produced in 1852 and a page with description of the communities in the vicinity of the mines. This almanac is in fairly good condition with some obvious damage. Map and California article are both in good condition. As always. I offer this item with no reserve and a low minimum bid

Grass Valley California Framed Sketch 1852 by Thompson & West Antique w/ Figures
Up for bid is this framed picture of Grass Valley. California. It's by Thompson& West from 1852 although I'm not sure if it's an original from those days or a reprint. It looks old and I found it in a storage locker with a bunch of other antiques, some from the 1800's. I opened up the back of the picture so you could see the entire print. It's glued on a paperboard and it looks like that's what caused the bit of wrinkling mostly along the bottom edge. The outside dimensions of the frame are 16-1/2 x 12-1/2 inches. Please email with any questions and I'll get back to you ASAP. All items have been stored continuously in a smoke free environment. Bid with confidence. Please check my feedback. Shipping will be $14.99 for shipping anywhere in the lower 48 which includes tracking and insurance. I do ship internationally ... morebut please email me for a price quote before bidding. Most countries are Priority mail only, which is quite expensive, but some items and countries may qualify for first class mail which is more reasonable so please contact me first for a more accurate shipping price. However, items shipped via first class international mail are not insurable and therefore any losses would be at the buyers expense. Please pay via PayPal within 24 hours of auction's end.
