This lantern was made by Anchor and was given to me by and old man and friend he's 95 years old and can really use the money he told me he once sailed around the world in his younger days and used these four lanterns that are up for auction. His boat was named The Abigail. The lantern measures 20 inches high and with the handle up it measures 23 inches high and 11 inches wide and weights about 20lbs. There is no dents I can see, the globe looks to be original with slight chip at rim, looks to be original patina and glass is magnifying like a lighthouse. The glass globe is clear and very thick. It was converted to electric light at one point as evident by the electrical wire holes on the bottom and the switch hole on the backside. Here is a brass oil lamp is marked but is written in German I think please see photos.the The lamp looks to be in very good condition. It may be off of a ship or train. It has a bracket to mount it to a bulkhead or a wall that is with it. Just mount the bracket to the bulkhead or wall and the lamp just slides into the bracket so it can removed to refuel the light. This piece was purchased at an estate sale of a collector. I don't know much about it except that it is vintage from the 1960s-70s. I was told that it is extremely rare to see a Bakboord piece designed as an electric table lamp. The condition is excellent for its age. With the only noticable wear being on the wooden base. See photos for details. The lamp has three possible settings, 1-off, 2-just bottom part is lit(red glass) 3-both top and bottom are lit. The height of the entire lamp is 26. This is an Ouvrard& Villars Nautical Anchor lamp; Beautiful condition, it is constructed of hammered copper with a dual-ring brass cage. Original ruby flashed red globe. May very well have come from one of the Ironclad Steam Battleships on the Black Sea, I purchased this lantern from the estate of a very meticulous and discriminating lamp collector. This piece has undergone a no-harm electrification. Which can easily be removed. The original oil burner is wired to the underside of the chimney. The original font is in place. I have a brass marker lamp listed this week and this is a second mechanism. It has a wheel of sockets that holds 4 bulbs. As one burns out. The mechanism rotates and lights the next bulb. I can't find the manufacturer name on it. There are just some serial numbers. The mechanism measures about 5 inches across the base and about 6 inches to the top of a bulb. Would make Interesting repurpose project Measures approx 16" Note dents on pictures(does not distract from piece) Interesting History from website: The story starts with Frederick Persky. Who later became known as Frederick Perkins. He was a Russian immigrant who was schooled in Germany as a machinist and tool-and-die maker. Frederick came to the United States in the early 1890's and soon became employed as a machinist for E.W. Bliss& Company in Brooklyn, New York. In the early 1900's, he and a partner began operating a business, F. Persky& Company, Lantern Manufacturer, out of the basement of his house. In 1907. Frederick's son Louis joined him in the business, and together they enlarged both the product line ... moreand the manufacturing facilities. By 1912, they had seventeen employees and made a wide range of marine lanterns and products. The business continued operating until 1913 when Frederick became president of National Marine Lamp Company. Based out of Forestville, Connecticut. Vintage Nautical Weighted Oil Lamp, Gimbal-Mount Brass Boat Lantern w/ Chimney
Antique Brass Ship's Oil Lantern. Looks like it was never used. Very nice condition; only one small dent in the wick assembly. And that can probably be pushed back from behind the guard very easily. There is no maker's mark or logo on the lamp. But there is an"RV" and an anchor on the wick turn knob. The glass chimney appears to be original to the lamp. Dimensions: 12 7/8" overall. 5 3/4" from back of mounting plate for the gimbal to the outside of the lamp. Chimney measures 6 7/8" in height and is 3 1/4" in diameter, the lamp body measures 7 1/2" tall and is 3 1/2" in diameter and 4 1/4" total width including the gimbal mounting pins that project 3/8" from either side of the lamp body. Made in England by The Viking Co. Operates on oil. Hand crafted late 1900's or early 1900. Is in excellent and original condition. Not polished or fooled with. Has natural and great Patina. Is 6 inches square. Not counting protrusions on sides. Is 15 inches tall, not counting handle. Oval emblem on front reads Viking and has their trademark. All brass and glass. In great condition.
