Vintage The Portable Light Co. New York Nautical spotlight base solid brass?
Here's a vintage base/stand for a nautical search/spotlight made by The Portable Light Co. New York. It seems to be made almost entirely of chrome plated brass or copper. Though confusingly there are some signs of rust in certain areas and it is very faintly magnetic. My best guess is that a thin layer of iron was put over the copper or brass base before the chrome was applied to act as a bonding agent. Everything still rotates well and would be perfect for use if put with a fitting spotlight. There is some paint staining and copper oxidization present. Mostly on the conical base piece. A little confusing as top states both One Mile and Half Mile. I tested this unit with a 12v battery and the spotlight came right on. There is no glass or lens and there is pitting and other wear on the chrome finish. Best advice is look at the detailed photos very carefully as you are able to zoom in on my pics to determine condition and identification. Antique Boat Search Light, Half Mile Ray, Model 833, by The Portable Light Co.
This is a Half Mile Ray 12 volt Marine Cabin Roof Search/Spot light. Model 833 made by the Portable Light Company. This light is in beautiful condition for it's age and works. All parts are there including the big chrome knobs that are located on the bottom of the shaft inside the vessel cabin with which to swivel the light 360 degrees and to raise and lower the beam angle. It was removed from a fresh water yacht, The chrome has minor pitting and wear as is to be expected with this age, no dents or damage. The chrome is peeling from the bronze base casting. The gears to raise and lower the light are in excellent shape and nothing is missing. I will carefully pack this light and ship to you via USPS economy shipping. I have purchased(at a cost of $45.00) had it installed a brand new DURACELL BATTERY(one day old as of today 12/3/204) I don't know if the recharging works or not but I am including the cord which came with it.
