This auction is for a rare handwritten and decorated Bible Leaf from Paris, France C1240. There are 44 lines of an elegant gothic book hand in brown ink. Vellum was made from animal skin and sometimes they even intestines, but this seems to be from the skin. A limited number of other rare Titles and popular verses available. This comes from a Medieval Manuscript Bible, one that would have been carried by a friar in his travels. This leaf contains the GOSPEL OF MARK 12-14(partial) WITH, AMONG OTHERS, THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT GIVEN BY JESUS AND THE WIDOWS MITE VERSES(coin available if desired) Amazing the skill of the scribe that wrote this, but then the Lord gave him his ability and so this is why it is understandable! ... moreMeasures about 4 1/4" X 6 1/4" These scribes were trained at an early age and I am truly amazed by the fine work and the dedication they had in preserving God's Holy Word! This auction is for a rare handwritten and decorated Bible Leaf from Paris, France C1240. There are 44 lines of gothic book hand in brown ink. There is what is probably reference notes from one of the early owners name(and possibly original) written on the leaf! This leaf has a minor marginal repair. This comes from a Medieval Manuscript Bible, one that would have been carried by a friar in his travels. Written vellum in dark brown ink in a small& elegant gothic book hand. This leaf contains the GOSPEL OF LUKE 19-21(partial) with verses of Luke chapter 21 where we are told of the wonderful story of the WIDOW PUTTING IN ALL OF WHAT SHE OWNED, KNOWN ... moreAS THE WIDOW'S MITE! Jesus told us this story to show that it is not how much quantity we put in, but how much we put in of what we have available, so each has an opportunity to earn a reward! Amazing the skill of the scribe that wrote this, but then the Lord gave him his ability and so this is why it is understandable! Measures about 4 3/8" X 6 1/4" and has small open area on the margin with a tiny hole in the text area. It does not appear to have affected the text and may have been there originally. C1470 VERY RARE VELLUM MANUSCRIPT PSALTER BIBLE LEAF/ILLUMINATED/GOLD/PSALMS 90-91! This is a VERY RARE offering for an ILLUMINATED BIBLE PSALTER LEAF HAND WRITTEN IN ENGLAND C1470 ON VELLUM(animal skin) WITH NUMEROUS RUBRICATED AND GOLD COVERED CAPITALS(as shown in top scan) ON FRONT AND BACK AND MUSICAL STANZAS on FRONT! TRULY LOVELY! THIS LEAF HAS PSALMS 90-91(partial) WITH THE POPULAR PSALM 91:1-2! The majority of these leaves were likely destroyed during the reign of King Henry the 8th due to his opposition. This leaf will be similar as that shown-just a few left(example shown below picture of leaf of how the gold shines! and has verses on both sides. France C1240-in good condition(a limited number of other rare Titles and popular verses available aside from this auction) This comes from a Medieval Manuscript Bible, one that would have been carried by a friar in his travels. 12 Lines of Latin script per inch in 2 columns of 48 lines ruled in plummet. Written on very fine vellum in dark brown ink in an extremely small& elegant gothic book hand. This leaf contains the TEN COMMANDMENTS FROM DEUTERONOMY! In good antiquarian condition. Included with this leaf is a copy of the history and appreciation of the 13th Century Bible(along with a page describing the contents of the page) Amazing the skill ... moreof the scribe that wrote this, but then the Lord gave him his ability and so this is why it is understandable!
