Psalm 44. Antique 17th century hand calligraphy on vellum, tab mounted and framed. The Psalm of Communal Lament" We are very please to be able to ... moreoffer for your consideration this professionally tab mounted and framed 17th Century vellum of Psalm 44 The calligraphy on this vellum is hand penned. Our expert tells us it was most likely taken from a privately owned, and or, commissioned book of Psalms. We believe this because it is without illumination, and markings for musical notations. It is beautifully mounted on a fabric back board with corner tab mounts. The vellum is scribed in Latin, on both sides, or recto inverso. Shadows of the letters on the reverse side can be faintly seen through the text of the front. From the look of the font style, the peculiar punctuation, and the vellum used, our expert dates it to the 17th century. The passage is a portion of Psalm 44, or the Psalm of Communal Lament. According to our Latin translator it is verses 9 through 13. In these verses, the Psalmist laments that God has been slow to act, and has a responsibility to save these people from their enemies. The frame measures 23 1/8 inches wide. By 30 1/2 inches tall, by 1 5/8 inches deep. The frame is nice and deep, providing adequate space to accommodate the ripples in the vellum. The frame is finished in a dark brown stain, and is distressed. The back is covered in heavy brown paper with sealed edges. This piece weighs approximately 8 pounds. Condition- This framed antique framed vellum is in wonderful condition. There are no visible flaws that we can see. If you are a collector of religious antiquities this would be a wonderful piece to add to your collection. Check out the HUGE selection of items in our eBay store. INCLUDING ST JEROME'S IMPORTANT PROLOGUE( Nemo cum prophetas versibus viderit. Also included is the complete text of St Jerome's ... morePrologue to the Book of Jeremiah. And the final 51st chapter of Ecclesiasticus(Wisdom of Sirach) The Book of Isaiah is the first of the Latter Prophets in the Hebrew Bible and the first of the Major Prophets in Latin and English bibles. Isaiah identifies itself as the words of the 8th century BC prophet Isaiah ben Amoz. But there is ample evidence that much of it was composed during the Babylonian exile and later. The scholarly consensus(which held sway through most of the 20th century) saw three separate collections of oracles: Proto-Isaiah(chapters 1-39) Containing the words of Isaiah; Deutero-Isaiah(chapters 40-55) the work of an anonymous 6th-century BC author writing during the Exile; and Trito-Isaiah(chapters 56-66) composed after the return from exile. A great deal of current research concentrates on the book's essential unity, with Isaiah 1-33 projecting judgement and restoration for Judah, Jerusalem and the nations, and chapters 34-66 presupposing that judgement has already taken place and restoration is at hand. The overarching narrative of Isaiah can be viewed as" a continued meditation upon the destiny of Jerusalem" Walter Brueggemann) A central th

1400s Medieval Vellum Private Charter French 15th Century Middle Ages Parchment!
Nice genuine 1400s. 15th century, French private charter on vellum. Measures approximately 4" x 12" or 10cm x 30cm. No seal. A piece of vellum missing in lower right, without loss of text. I have added scans and photographs. Please take a good look. When I first acquired this item the seller told me it was from the Niort Region of France. The Ardin or Dilay area. He also said it was from the year 1423! Then he said there was some disagreement about the date and it was maybe from 1483. This confusion may have been going on for awhile because there are two dates on the obverse of this charter. One says, 1423 and the other says 1483. So, what is not in disagreement is that this is a 15th century charter from some date in the 1400s. I think it is 1423. And I will tell you why. I have included a scan of the date. This date is found at ... morethe end of the document. You will see"mil" for one thousand, next to it are four minims"iiii" for four hundred. At the end you will see"et Trois" for"and three" Now so far no one is in disagreement. But when we get to the part that represents the tens we see four more minims"iiii" a copy of the previous expression we take to mean hundreds) and we see two x's. It is my opinion that these two x's represent twenty and the four minims are a mistake, a piece of dittography. I believe the scribe got confused and wrote the four minims twice when it should have been only once. Therefore, what we should have is"mil iiii xx et trois" Only my opinion. I am selling this as a 15 century French private charter. Check out the reverse as well. It looks like a notary has added writing and his seal. Possibly this was the recording of this event. Or was the vellum being recycled? I don't know. But it is interesting. Please look carefully at the scans. I have taken care to represent this item as accurately as I possibly can. Please read what I have said about condition. Please ask your questions first. I accept PayPal. I packa

Medieval 15th Century Vellum Leaf Breviary -hand scribed monastic scribe, 1490
Medieval Vellum Leaf from a 15th Century Breviary(hand scribed by a monastic scribe. 1490) A Leaf from a 15th Century Breviary. Done by a monastic scribe. Probably in the Low Countries or in Northern France, circa 1490. Compact Gothic lettering is typical of all medieval breviaries and similar small books of devotion, as is the fine vellum employed. The blue initials used throughout are of encrusted lapis lazuli, prepared by grinding the semi-orecious stone into a fine powder: hence the lasting quality of this color. The vermilion must also have been of the best quality, judging by its freshness as contrasted with the black. Measures 4 3/4" x 6 1/2" Tape residue and staining at bottom Check out my other items. Psalm 44 Antique 17th Century Hand Calligraphy Manuscript on Vellum Framed
Psalm 44. Antique 17th century hand calligraphy on vellum, tab mounted and framed. The Psalm of Communal Lament" We are very please to be able to offer for your consideration this professionally tab mounted and framed 17th Century vellum of Psalm 44 The calligraphy on this vellum is hand penned. The ... morepassage is a portion of Psalm 44, or the Psalm of Communal Lament. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE First of all. I must mention that this particular leaf of the Latin Book of Hours is one of the most unique and beautiful leaves I have ever seen. It also has a unique design that I have never seen before. It consists of a square divided with red ink into four compartments, which looks like a symbol of the Christian cross. Then I took the time to decipher the main words in a xerox copy of the leaf, and I found to my surprise(and confirmation of my earlier idea) that the word to the next of the design is in fact the Latin word"Cross" see the 2nd scanned image. 15th-17th Century Manuscript/Painting Vellum of "Robert The Devil" Satan Occult
This is a beautiful 15th-17th century manuscript and painting on vellum of"Robert The Devil" Satanic legend from France. A stunning hand-painted vellum leaf with a short story in French about"Robert the Devil" Above the handwriting. There is a magnificent painting of Robert I, Duke of Normandy( 22 June 1000– 3 July 1035) and four other persons. Measurement: 12 x 10 cm. Origin: France or Italy. Condition: Minor staining. Name of previous owner(from the 1600's) on the back(faded) minor rubbing, but otherwise very good considering its age. More information on this piece: The Bibliothèque Nationale de France 14th Century manuscript section contains this same image and text(shelf mark"Manuscrit Français 820" On folio 157. Therefore. It is very likely that this is a copy. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful ... moreand unique item that dates sometime between the 15th-17th century. On the back of this vellum. You can see a very faded name. This is probably the previous owner, Frederico Quaglio( but could also be the artist of this manuscript. The Quaglio family was a was a well-known and large family of artists and architects from the town of Laino. Between Lake Garda and Lake Como. The owner before me bought this piece in a well-known auction house that advertised the item as being from the 15th century. There is a little description from the early 1900's in French mounted on the back(see photo) It says that the manuscript is from the 14th century. But this was invisible to the auction house because the piece was in a very old frame. Robert the Devil is a of origin about a Norman knight who discovers he is the son of. His mother. Despairing of heaven's aid in order to obtain a son, had asked for help from the devil. Robert's satanic instincts propel him into a violent and sinful life, but he eventually overcomes them to achieve repentance. It is not known whether or not the legend is based on the life of a real individual. It originated in France in the 13th century and has
TOMAS LUIS DE VICTORIA VELLUM ANTIPHONARY HYMNAL SHEETS 16TH CENTURY VERY RARE
TOMAS LUIS DE VICTORIA ANTIPHONARY SHEETS Tomas Luis de Victoria(1548-1611) Famed Renaissance composer from Spain. Considered one of the most important composers of the Counter-Reformation and of sacred music. Victoria was ordained as a priest at Loyala's monestary. But spent the majority of his career serving the Empress Maria of Spain. One of Victoria's most treasured works is the Officium Hebdomadae Sanctae. A collection of music written for the Holy Week liturgy and played at the Sistine Chapel, to which this lot pertains. Rare 13"x11" Illuminated musical manuscript sheet, 1p. Vellum, a section of the"Hebdomadae" Specifically a part of the"Jesum Tradidit Impius" The Jesum Tradidit Impius sets the Passion of Mathew to music, and is considered the highlight of Victoria's composition. The sheet contains ... morethe line, addu} xerunt aute' eum ad caipa' principem sacerdotum ubi scribe et pharisei conve{nerant} Which translates to, And they led him to Caiphas the high priest. Where the Scribes and Pharisees were met together" The sheet appears to have been finely sliced from an antiphonery book given the roman numeral page number at the upper right corner and the slight chafing at the margin. While unlikely that this sheet was penned by Victoria himself. The Yale conservation department has confirmed the time period as late 16 th century. Making it most probably a contemporary copy from a European church or monestary. Included with the lot is an illuminated musical manuscript page reciting"Gloria Patri" Both are slightly toned with evidence of foxing and iron ink pinholes. Else fine. A superb addition for any collector of sacred Renaissance music. From a previous ALEXANDER AUTOGRAPHS auction. Estimated value: $800-$1000 A great gift for the collector! Bristol England 18th CENTURY Vellum Document
rare Antique Velum document Up for auction is this very old later 1700s document Bristol England. On Vellum. The document references St. Peters parish and the city of Bristol in England. In regards to time and who is in charge at the time it mentions king George the 3rd and goes on for a line or two as to the date which is fairly complicated. In the court of our sovereign lord the king eight day 3 of St. Soilary in the year of god of Great Britain” Some time ago I figured this to be the later 1700s based on those first 2 or 3 lines. Also I have photographed a small part that talks of this David Sproull and a“gift” No idea what type of document this is. Perhaps this will be obvious to someone who is more of a history buff. I think it is some type of a legal document between a Mr. David Sproul& Robert Sauson and I am not sure on the spelling(see ... morephotos) On the back it lists their names. Two parishes, and the City of Bristol which I notice the writer ends with 2 L’s? This Measures about 12” x 19& 1/2” And it looks to me like once long ago it was cut wavy to perhaps look fancy? Not sure. I wonder if it was once attached to a scroll of some sort at one time. I hope someone will know exactly what it says. I can figure out lots of the words but not all. Though it is lighter ink. It is fairly clear. The old English style writing is what I am not familiar with. Condition: From time it has wear. Staining and some fading, creasing where folded perhaps for a few centuries, etc. See photos) This is not at all fragile. Very sturdy thicker velum. I will send exactly how it has been folded and stored originally and will make sure it is packed well. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks

4 Medieval Illuminated BOOK OF HOURS LEAVES ca.15th Century Vellum Calligraphy Prev Stop Play Next These are very nice estate find and they are in good vintage condition. The color is good with black& red latin calligraphy. There are places where it is starting to fade but. They are still very readable. Each page features gold painted ivy and floral motif on the side. There are 2 frames back to back each holding 2 leaves. There is nothing seperating the leaves in the frames so you can see one leaf through the other in some instances. Each leaf has 14 lines of text and 3 of the leaves have large decorated initials. The frames were added much later and I believe these need to come out of the frames because there are places on the vellum that are starting to get some foxing as well as a spot here and there and there is puckering around the ... moreedges of the leaves at the matting. I've done alot of research on these and I truely believe the are The Book of Hours. If you know something different please let me know. At the point of shipping I will pay for the insurance on this. 18th Century Liturgical Manuscript, Vellum, Missal for Mass, Parable of Talents
I acquired this vellum(I believe) manuscript many years ago. About 15 years ago. I had it framed with double-sided glass so both the front and back of the page are visible, and the sewn-on page-turning tab is also. Since I don't read Latin. I had a priest look at it, and the information he gave me was that it is taken from the Roman missal for mass. It is the vesper antiphon for a confessor(i.e. a saint who is not a martyr& not a pope) It gives the theme and then a response for monks's choirs to chant. It could date from the Renaissance, because then they embellished the opening words with art to highlight them. I don't believe that it is that old, but I don't know. I thought he was perhaps referring to illuminated manuscripts, which I don't think this is. Another very well-established and respected dealer of early ... moremanuscripts and prints opined that it it is perhaps done with woodcuts or stencils and that it was, he thought, 18th century, not English or German, but could tell me nothing else. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of any of this information, however the sources are certainly reputable and, I would think, credible. The priest translated the entire document. The text being the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25. I will include the translation with the manuscript. The frame is high-quality and the page is matted and well mounted between the double glass. Dimensions: Manuscript leaf. Approximately 12 1/2" x 18 1/2" Frame, outer dimensions, approximately 24 1/2" x 19 1/2" Buyer. Please do not make payment until you receive the ebay invoice with the correct postage, including insurance, to your location. The ebay shipping costs are estimates only. If payment is made and shipping paid is inadequate to cover actual cost, I reserve the right to cancel the sale. The double glass makes the piece rather heavy. It will be packed carefully to arrive in good condition. Thanks for your understanding Thanks for your interest. Have an enjoyable day. 40g.RcmdId ViewItemDescV
