Rare Original 1618 Swedish Bible Biblia Gustavus Adolphus Edition Stockholm I have for sale an extremely rare edition of the Bible- a 1618 Gustavus Adolphus printing in Stockholm. My father purchased this Bible in Stockholm at auction in 1940. I have included the 12 eBay allotted photos and will describe as best I can. It is heavily illustrated with approx 140 prints. 2 page map of what appears to be northern Africa including Egypt and a 2 page illustration of the Temple in Jerusalem. These are both reapplied to a conservation paper. The Bible covers measure approx 9 1/2" x 15" 24cm x 38cm) At some point, this volume had its covers reinforced with a new leather spine and some minor repairs to the original covers. The clasps are in good working condition. Many of the pages have been repaired using what remnants were remaining of ... morethe page. Rebinding and any repairs to pages were done before my father purchased the volume. Other pages remain in need of repair- primarily the pages related to the book of Revelation. Whether the Bible is complete I can not say. The beginning pages and the last pages are those that are in the least condition. The center pages are really quite nice. The title page is loose. The internal spine is generally intact with a small number of pages loose in the front and back. 99% of the pages are intact with spine. I have many more photos which I can send to those interested. Original leaf from Biblia. Das 1st(The Holy Bible, in German) Printed at Frankfurt. Germany, by Johan Saurs in 1606. Folio size, 9 1/4" x 14 1/4" double columns of German text in Black Letter type, ruled border. This handsome Black Letter folio German vernacular Bible is a fine example of the products of the German Press with most leaves displaying one or more large historiated letters which are wonderful examples of the early German woodcutter's art. It contains the Lutheran version of the Scriptures. Which first appeared in 1522, and is here published"with the approval" of the King of the German city-state. By translating the Bible into everyday German. Luther created the central text of the Protestant Reformation. The translation was written in vigorous, idiomatic German prose- the language of the common man. Luther's ... morework was fired by his passionate belief that the word of God should be available to"the preiesthood of all believers" in their own language. Certificate of Authenticity attached to back of picture. Frame is pine with beautiful old patina. There is an insert of black beaded wood(called an enhancer in framers' lingo) right around the inside rabbet of the frame. The enhancer makes a new rabbet. The image has a black smaller beaded fillet surrounding it. The mat is rust colored sued. The glass is clear premium quality glazing. This piece came from my custom framing shop and art gallery which I closed last year when I retired.

While the leather front cover is detached, the rest of the book's binding is intact. There is occasional underlining throughout, but none that hides the text, and indicates the use by its owner. The Bible text is surrounded by commentary and gloss(Postilla litteralis) by Nicholas de Lyra. Folio. 30 cm(11.5 x 8 inches) two-column, gothic type. This Medieval Bible is exceedingly rare because it is a folio with brightly-colored rubricated blue and red initials and pointers and adorned with hand-written devotional commentary and marginal notes from the period. The book cover is vellum. Worn, stained, but distinctive. While there are Bibles from this period that sell online from time-to-time, most are not rubicated with hand colored initials and do not include devotionally written marginal notes from the period- both of which makes this Bible highly desirable for collections, scholars, archives, ... moreantiquarian book sellers, and Catholics and Protestants seeking to own a half a millennia old Bible and rare piece of Christian history. Book of Jeremiah Chapters 1-2. Printed at Lyon, by Jacques Mareschal for Simon Vincent in 1519. The leaf measures 168x 120 mm. in totality and contains fifty-six lines of gothic type, printed double column in Latin. There are 8-line historiated letters located at the beginning of each chapter. During the Sixteenth Century, Lyon was the most important center for printing in France. Jacques(alias Roland) Mareschal(1475-1529) was a master printer, a"seller" by 1522, as well as a"courier" for the Co-Fraternity of the Printers, a powerful guild organization of the age. Aside from this St. Jerome Bible, Mareschal was well known for his much-copied 1512 edition ... moreof the Bible as well as later versions in 1523, 1525 and 1526. Simon Vincent, one of three major publishers in Lyon at the time(along with Gueynard and Jacques Guinta) contracted with several printers simultaneously, Mareschal being one of them. Antique 1839 Dutch BIBLE, Biblia Old & New Testament Hymnal Psalms Prayer Book
This very old bible measures approximately 6" x 3" x 2.5" and also includes the New Testament. Psalms, prayers and songs. Printed in Amsterdam in 1839. The print is in what I presume is Dutch and is very small. Some pages are better than others. Some show moisture. But no mold. Some are frayed and discolored. The binding is still intact, as are the pages, though the cover shows quite a bit of wear. There are a few loose pages that I photographed in one of the photos below. There is writing.
