What an interesting old print. There is an awful lot going on. About Death: The left half of the print is dominated by Death. He is astride a stallion. A long coat with buttons flaps around his bony flanks. He wears a round hat with a plume and a badge of some kind. And over-the-knee boots with spurs. He smokes a cheroot. His pelvis hovers over a saddle. The saddle has no pommel and metal stirrups. His attitude and demeanor appears gleeful, given the careless grin and casual cheroot. There is a bag or a blanket rolled up ahead of the saddle. Over his shoulder is balanced his long scythe, from which hangs his scales for weighing the soul. The stallion’s shod hooves puff up dust from the road, which leads into a city in the distance. Death is coming to the city. Behind the horse’s rump rise mountains far away over a plain. The horse’s shadow ... moreis plain on the road. Foreground: At the intersection of roads just ahead of Death. A pair of frightened peasant women flee to the right. One carries a sheaf of wheat in a bundle about her waist, the other a rake. Their shadows precede them. Just behind them is a wheat field. On the lower right three crows caw, one about to land. A square road marker rises in a ditch, which turns to the right, with fresh cat tails growing in front of the mile marker and a couple mature ones nod near the landing crow. Background: The road continues on to a gate in the walled city. Passing bundles of harvested wheat, yet to be collected. There are trees to the left of the city, and smoke rises from tall chimneys. A church resembling the twin spired Cologne cathedral is in the center of the city, with a cross atop a lesser building to the rear The walled city shows defensive layout with at least one battlement. There are German inscriptions above the view and below. The print is titled Zweites Blatt. Below the print are stanzas which are in stylized or archaic German. No idea what they say. The volumes are generally between 340 and 400 pages.They have hard covers. Striking designs inside the covers, and are in good condition. They show slight wear on the spine ends, on the corners and somewhat on the cover edges. The pages are intact with no dog ears or tears that I noticed. I purchased this set years ago and it has been part of my vintage and antiquarian book collection. It was owned previously by a long-deceased Nebraska pastor who had a large collection of antiquarian and vintage books, most in German and Latin. Hermann und Dorothea. by Goethe. Hardback 1922 in Old German Script Beautiful old German book. Pages are in generally good condition with the exception of the pencil on two of the pages. Published by Belhagen& Klafing in 1922. I count six black and white illustrations scattered through out the book. Cover has discoloration. Someone wrote their name in pen on the inside cover and a child wrote in pencil on the next two pages. Occasional small. Light pencil marks on a few of the pages. Spine is broken at the top, in tact at the bottom. Corners of front and back cover on top are bent inward and the cloth covering is wearing. No pages are bent, dog- eared or missing.

The binding is nice and tight and the pages are very uniform. The pages are also gilded with gold on all 3 sides. The book measures 5 and 1/4" by 3 and 5/8" There are some inside pages that have small dog-ears on the bottom. One page has the dog-ear broke off. But this is very unnoticeable and minor for such an old book. The cover appears to be leather and is in worn condition but there are no large rips or tears. Very nice!

1892 Saint Joseph Book Bible- In German Antique* RARE* First off. I apologize for not being able to explain this book very good. It is written in German and possibly some Latin. The bind says: Saint Joseph book of Georg Ott. At least that’s what I think the google translator meant. One thing I can understand is the date is 1892. It is in very good condition for it’s age. I’ve taken quite a few pictures so you can see the pages. There is one page that has a tear but other than that they are all clean, the bind is nice and tight. There isn’t any writing except for the previous owners name on the inside cover. There are little cards and a few leaves between the pages from the previous owner. A couple of the cards are Catholic Union Cards he’s signed dating 1916 and 1917. The front cover has a gold embossed picture. The book is 8 3/4” wide, 11 ... more1/4” tall and 1 1/2” thick. It is 462 pages. I don’t see any on ebay like this, nor did I find any information on the internet. It seems to be pretty rare.
