It is written in a Dead Latin Langauge but at one time I had it partly translated but I forgot what it said. I know not very bright on my part. But I do remember that it is a plainsong about the apostle James. It is hand done on vellum. It is 2 sided the front is the begining of the song and the back is the end. It is framed in heavy glass on both sides there are 2 screws with just and old cord hooked on it to hang it from but it works. Pages are about 24 by 17. Because of the weight and size of this shipping will be around $30 to $40 depending on where you live.

The splendid illumination was probably produced by the famous Gautier Lebaube atelier. The manuscript we are offering comprises 27 consecutive leaves. I.e. 54 pages from a finely illuminated 13th-century'pocket format' Vulgate Latin Bible, containing the ENTIRE TEXT OF THE BOOK OF ISAIAH. C1470 VERY RARE VELLUM MANUSCRIPT PSALTER BIBLE LEAF/ILLUMINATED/GOLD/PSALMS 90-91! This is a VERY RARE offering for an ILLUMINATED BIBLE PSALTER LEAF HAND WRITTEN IN ENGLAND C1470 ON VELLUM(animal skin) WITH NUMEROUS RUBRICATED AND GOLD COVERED CAPITALS(as shown in top scan) ON FRONT AND BACK AND MUSICAL STANZAS on FRONT! TRULY LOVELY! THIS LEAF HAS PSALMS 90-91(partial) WITH THE POPULAR PSALM 91:1-2! The majority of these leaves were likely destroyed during the reign of King Henry the 8th due to his opposition. This leaf will be similar as that shown-just a few left(example shown below picture of leaf of how the gold shines! and has verses on both sides. The calligraphic was one of the best kinds– clean. Simple, elegant, yet clearly legible. It has two decorative initials, each passage was also rubricated, and beginning of each chapter was numbered. The face page was marked NI while the back page was marked DA. I will summarize some interesting passages below for general enjoyment and you will surely find many more such delights by going it over more carefully. The Face page began(photo#3) please note the subtle variations from the standard Clement’s Latin Vulgate. Some special abbreviations can not be fully expressed here, I used Douay Rheims for its English translation instead of King James for obvious reason] at middle of Daniel 7:7[et reliqua pedibus] suis conculcans. 1600-1700 Huge VELLUM Illuminated ROMAN Catholic MANUSCRIPT Bible MUSICAL Music
You are bidding on a strikingly massive and very rare leaf of musical score from a pulpit Catholic Antiphonary. Hand- painted in black and red with precise intricate Latin lettering, circa late 1400s-early 1500s. Manuscript 5-LINE musical score and Latin lettered lyrics. On well aged rippled vellum; in red and black ink, as shown. Leaf measures 23.5" x 16.5. Condition overall quite good. With some small instances of staining, edgewear, and light paint rubbing, as shown; rubbing off moreso to the verso from displaying. Undated. But main text and vellum are ancient and carry characteristics of the early 17th to early 18th century. Beautiful initials throughout- a true showstopper! Ink nice and bright. Although it has some paint fading and a few letters have rubbed off, again mostly to the back, as shown. Still, a great candidate for framing ... morewith added character! Doubtless Paris, 2nd quarter of 13th Century(ca. 1240) A single leaf embellished WITH TWO SUPERB ILLUMINATED INITIALS. INCLUDING ONE ON GOLD GROUND WITH A GROTESQUE ANIMAL. This leaf from a finely illuminated 13th-century'pocket format' Latin Bible(St Jerome's Vulgate version) contains the Vulgate text of the Book of Haggai from 1:10 to the end(i.e. the entire book save the first 9 verses) the entire text of St Jerome's Prologue to Zechariah(incipit" Secundo anno Darii filii Hystaspis" And an initial portion of the Book of Zechariah from the beginning to the middle of verse 11 of Chapter 1. You are bidding on a striking and very rare vellum leaf of musical score from a Book of Hours. Highlighted with a beautifully illuminated large miniature hand painted scene, amongst colorful and gold enhanced floral and fruit intertwined borders. Circa mid 1400s. Miniature painting with floral border design. As shown with some age rubbing and some color bleeding on it as well as the borders. Undated. But main text and vellum share characteristics possibly dating to the mid to late 13th century. Also with 2 two line gold burnished initials and 3 one line golden initials. Probably French(use of Rouen) text in Latin with brown. Black, red and blue initials and script. Page is slightly tanned but overall bright; again with some color toning and rubbing along side with miniature. Which is more notably toned than verso. A truly rare and beautiful ... moreleaf. From an estate where everything on the walls was from the 1950s and 60s comes this framed English psalter leaf. I have examined it under high magnification and it is an authentic medieval hand-inked document on vellum and not a copy or reproduction. Nice gold. Red, and blue adornments. The leaf is matted to about 6 3/8" x 4 3/8" The frame itself is also very nice, with a copper or gold foil and hand drawing and lettering, and measures about 12 1/2" x 10"

This 575 year old hand-colored miniature manuscript represents a fine artistic production from the medieval period in its complete unrestored state. Condition: This is an original gothic. Medieval manuscript on vellum with ten illuminated initials ... moredone in blue and red, with infills of bright gold. There are illuminated ornamentations outlined in black and also done in reds, blues, whites and infills of bright gold. Circa 1440 miniature leaf measures 6.5"x4.5" text block measures 3"x2" most likely from a Northern France scriptorium. Initials done in gothic-batarde; classic style of fifteenth century France.
