Gandavi(Gand, Gent) 1763-64(cm 18) La Summa Theologiae che Tommaso d'Aquino scrisse negli ultimi dieci anni della sua vita è senz'altro il trattato più famoso della teologia medioevale. E la sua influenza sulla filosofia e sulla teologia posteriore, soprattutto nel cattolicesimo, è incalcolabile. L'opera, stampata a Gandavi(l'attuale Gand o Gent in fiammingo) presso i torchi di Joannis Meyer, è divisa in sei volumi che comprendono tutte e tre le parti in cui fu concepita. Le legature sono in tutta pelle, con fregi e iscrizioni dorate sui dorsi a cinque nervature. Le pagine interne sono in condizioni più che buone e sono impreziosite da una leggera spruzzatura di rosso ai tagli. Trattandosi di un manuale per lo studio della teologia più che di opera ... moreapologetica di polemica contro i non cattolici, nella struttura dei suoi articoli, la Summa è una esemplificazione tipica dello stile intellettuale della scolastica. Deriva da un'opera anteriore la Summa Contra Gentiles, che era di contenuto più apologetico. Tommaso la scrive tenendo presenti le fonti propriamente religiose, cioè la Bibbia e i dogmi della chiesa cattolica, ma anche le opere di alcuni autori dell'antichità: Aristotele è l'autorità massima in campo filosofico, e Agostino di Ippona in campo teologico. Sono citati frequentemente anche Pietro Lombardo, teologo e autore del manuale usato all'epoca, gli scritti del secolo V del Pseudo-Dionigi l'Areopagita, e Mosè Maimonide, studioso giudeo non molto anteriore a Tommaso, del quale egli ammirava l'applicazione del metodo investigativo. Humanist and epigrammist from Naples. He wrote easily in Latin. In Italian and in Neapolitan, but is best remembered for his humanist classic Arcadia, a masterwork that illustrated the possibilities of poetical prose in Italian, and instituted the theme of Arcadia, representing an idyllic land, in European ... moreliterature. Sannazaro's elegant style was the inspiration for much courtly literature of the 16th century, including Sir Philip Sidney's Arcadia. Biography He was born in 1458 at Naples of a noble family of the Lomellina. That claimed to derive its name from a seat in Lombard territory, at San Nazaro near Pavia.
