Some of the features include: a foot pedal brake, the carriage itself swivels on the frame, the bassinet rotates approximately 160 degrees, the base platform within the carriage has an attached hinged headrest support for range of movement. I believe all of these features are distinguishable from the photos included for this listing. I have examined this doll carriage thoroughly and have not been able to distinguish any markings, stampings or other discernable aspects relating to the manufacturer. When taking the photos, I attempted to display the carriage showing all pertinent characteristics that a potential buyer may be interested in. I made sure to display the unit with any potential problem areas displayed, such as the tires and bottom frame- showing the most noticable wear areas of the hardened rubber tires. This doll carriage was originally purchased or made for my aunt. The dating was determined from other family members who have discussed this at great length. My mother had always admired this carriage during the period of time in which she was becoming acquainted with my father. The point of origin would be northeastern Ohio. Approximately 30 miles northeast of Cleveland, along the lakefront. The dimensions of this doll carriage are 34 in(front of unit to wooden carriage handle) X 18 in(width at top of carriage) X 38 in(height) The weight of this carriage is 38 pounds. The seat itself is still in tact, I just want to mention it is weathering.it is a thin type of wood or wicker and is raising(weathering) It is not broken or cracked, however there is a small gap on one side~which you can see in the one pic(zoom in) and it will be the left side of your view. It looks as though that was the way it was made~to me. The thin black tires are worn down in spots, revealing the wire/metal that makes the wheel. The back of the buggy/carriage folds down(shown in picture) the front foot resting raises as well. In pausing to check over the buggy, to ensure the description is to the best of my ability~I have just discovered that the buggy folds up entirely.as if you are folding a stroller. Since I cannot add another picture without deleting one~if you are interested in this item, I will gladly send the picture of it folded to your email. The handle to push the buggy is weathered. It due to it's age naturally has the fading or rubbed down spots of the wood, markings, a couple slight cracks(not open) The wicker on the sides of this item, has only a couple little pieces of wicker missing(in two spots& they are not big) It's a beautiful piece, however keep in mind that it's still fragile. It's no longer crisp fresh wicker/wood. The coloring is fading/weathering throught the whole buggy~naturally giving it, it's antique unique look. These two items are as they were for years~together. Authentic Antique Heywood-Wakefield Wicker Rattan Baby Carriage/Buggy- A WOW'ER!
H-W(Heywood-Wakefield) Wicker Baby Buggy with fully functional features! For your consideration. A beautiful& authentic Heywood-Wakefield wicker rattan baby carriage buggy. The buggy is in very good shape- being all original materials. Wicker body, metal framing, wood handle and spokes. The carriage has many notable features that are all in great working order: A thick wooden push handle with original paint A metal brake activation lever on the right side just below the push handle. This lever locks in the braking position when pushed all the way down- probably one of the first to have this feature. A metal lever on the left side. Towards the back and bottom of the wicker body, that controls the position of the foot end of the buggy. This lever locks into 2 positions- as can be seen in the photos. The back rest can be locked into 3 different ... morepositions with a spring loaded pull metal knob on the top of the back rest. The top canopy that provides the baby shade/blocking the light can be adjusted back and forth along 2 metal runners and can be position up or down on a pivot that has large wing nuts to tighten to secure. The mechanics for these adjustment are on the back of the top sides of the main body. Wooden spoked wheels with hub caps that had or have"H-W" painted on them- most of this has worn away but one is in pretty good and readable condition. All 4 wheels can easily be removed and be re-inserted by using a spring loaded button on the axle by each wheel. A pretty cool feature. Rubber wheels- the rubber was cracking in many places but was complete on all wheels- to help secure and protect the original rubber I filled the cracks and uneven places with black silicone. The silicone could be easily removed if so desired. The Heywood Bros. was one of the first companies in the mid-1870's to make baby carriages from rattan and reed. In 1883. Vintage Wicker/Rattan & Metal Decorative Doll Carriage/Pram
Vintage decorative wicker& metal doll carriage. Age unknown. Very detailed and decorative. Displayed in a smoke free environment for many years. It measures approximately 18 1/2"L x 16"H x 7"W. The framework that supports the carriage. Wheels& handle are metal. The(working) canopy/cover has a metal frame and is covered in heavy black fabric, as well as the lining in the carriage. The scroll work(sides of the carriage) and wheels are wicker/wood. The handle is spindled wooden dowel. There are no rips or tears in the fabric. One wheel has some wear from rubbing against the other(photo 7) and one piece of wicker on the side has very minor split(photo 5)
