Description: We are pleased to offer this rare mint-y Heywood Wakefield baby buggy circa 1910-1920. The wicker is in excellent condition and has a lovely swag detail woven into the side pattern. The interior of the carriage was professionally retrofitted by a designer's upholsterer about 25 years ago. It is lined in a blue cotton fabric with a white pindot pattern and finished with self-cording and an eyelet ruffle trim. The mattress and pillow were also custom made at that time. The fabric. Trim, and cording are in very good to excellent condition. We did not find any tears or stains and only a few stray threads that can be easily snipped off. There is some slight fading in some areas of the fabric but it is not very noticeable and would not show if the carriage was used to display dolls or plush animals, for example. The previous owners actually used this family heirloom when their children were babies and it is functional. When not out for a head-turning stroll. The carriage served as a bassinet-on-wheels for a napping newborn. Afterwards it was used to display antique teddy bears in the family's home. Personally, we do not know if this item meets with current safety standards but it probably does not and we do not recommend using it except for display. It would be a lovely way to display antique dolls or a similar collection and a fantastic piece for a shop that sells dolls, baby items, or antique linens, etc. The wicker part of the carriage measures about 41 inches high overall. 22 inches wide, and 36 inches long. The seat itself is still in tact, I just want to mention it is weathering.it is a thin type of wood or wicker and is raising(weathering) It is not broken or cracked, however there is a small gap on one side~which you can see in the one pic(zoom in) and it will be the left side of your view. It looks as though that was the way it was made~to me. The thin black tires are worn down in spots, revealing the wire/metal that makes the wheel. The back of the buggy/carriage folds down(shown in picture) the front foot resting raises as well. In pausing to check over the buggy, to ensure the description is to the best of my ability~I have just discovered that the buggy folds up entirely.as if you are folding a stroller. Since I cannot add another picture without deleting one~if you are interested in this item, I will gladly send the picture of it folded to your email. The handle to push the buggy is weathered. It due to it's age naturally has the fading or rubbed down spots of the wood, markings, a couple slight cracks(not open) The wicker on the sides of this item, has only a couple little pieces of wicker missing(in two spots& they are not big) It's a beautiful piece, however keep in mind that it's still fragile. This is a large carriage measuring approx. 50" long x 30" tall x 25" wide. The wicker is in very good condition but could use a repaint and the metal needs to be repainted black. Great Victorian style. The insides have been recovered and need to be restored. Nice and complete suspension system with a locking mechanism to hold the buggy locked in place. Stunning Heywood Wakefield Wicker Baby Crib. I used this for both of my children. There is some chipping to the paint in a few areas and some damage to the wicker. Mostly at the foot if the crib. Good condition over all. The paint would be easy to repair. I am selling it complete with the mattress, bumper, and three different sets if sheets that I made. I will say that with the shorter sides I wouldn't recommend this crib for babies over 7 months. Once mine started pulling to standing it became hazardous. 28" from the ground to the top of the side rail. 38" to the top if the foot board. 48" to the top of the headboard. 25" across. Posted with

The extension foot area needs to be repaired with new cloth material. Puppy design on mattress. Perhaps it is the original since it fits so well. Brake works. Two back wheels have flat spots. But the carriage rolls nicely. Handsome black finish with pin striping Veneer separating in a few places. We found this in Nana's attic in 1972 and used it with our first child. When the second child came along two years later we put the carriage in storage and purchased a two seat buggy for the boys to ride in. From what I could find the name"HEYWOOD" was changed to HEYWOOD-WAKEFIELD after many years. The design of this clean print plate seems to indicate that the 3 people are in a furniture store and they are shopping for this wicker item as the little girls sits inside the wicker piece. A very cute design to mount in a frame especially if you collect wicker. This copper top engraved design(over lead plate) came off a wood print block. It came that way-I didnt not remove it. It is an old"HEYWOOD" advertising item that shows the name"HEYWOOD Trade Mark" along with a wicker baby pull/push stroller. From what I could find the name"HEYWOOD" was changed to HEYWOOD-WAKEFIELD after many years. The design of this clean print plate seems to indicate that the 3 people are in a furniture store and they are shopping for this wicker item as the little girls sits inside the wicker piece. A very cute design to mount in a frame especially if you collect wicker. The BACK has some cardstock residue remaining(as shown in the photos) because the previous owner had glued almost all of the copper printer pieces that I will be listing to cardboard for some reason. Authentic Antique Heywood-Wakefield Wicker Rattan Baby Carriage/Buggy- A WOW'ER!
H-W(Heywood-Wakefield) Wicker Baby Buggy with fully functional features! For your consideration. A beautiful& authentic Heywood-Wakefield wicker rattan baby carriage buggy. The buggy is in very good shape- being all original materials. Wicker body, metal framing, wood handle and spokes. The carriage has many notable features that are all in great working order: A thick wooden push handle with original paint A metal brake activation lever on the right side just below the push handle. This lever locks in the braking position when pushed all the way down- probably one of the first to have this feature. A metal lever on the left side. Towards the back and bottom of the wicker body, that controls the position of the foot end of the buggy. This lever locks into 2 positions- as can be seen in the photos. The back rest can be locked into 3 different ... morepositions with a spring loaded pull metal knob on the top of the back rest. The top canopy that provides the baby shade/blocking the light can be adjusted back and forth along 2 metal runners and can be position up or down on a pivot that has large wing nuts to tighten to secure. The mechanics for these adjustment are on the back of the top sides of the main body. Wooden spoked wheels with hub caps that had or have"H-W" painted on them- most of this has worn away but one is in pretty good and readable condition. All 4 wheels can easily be removed and be re-inserted by using a spring loaded button on the axle by each wheel. A pretty cool feature. Rubber wheels- the rubber was cracking in many places but was complete on all wheels- to help secure and protect the original rubber I filled the cracks and uneven places with black silicone. The silicone could be easily removed if so desired. The Heywood Bros. was one of the first companies in the mid-1870's to make baby carriages from rattan and reed. In 1883. I believe this is a Heywood Wakefield wicker baby carriage. There are no tags.The wicker. is in great condition and all the mechanical pieces work good brakes, bed recliner, etc. There is a neat hidden compartment under the mattress on the inside of the carriage and the sliding door on it looks to be original as well. The handle is wooden and the wheels are all in tact and move freely there is no rush sorry to say it's missing the hood but otherwise everything is in great working condition nice condition for it's age. There is a small tear on the bonnet of the carriage between the wicker and fabric. Wicker is in great shape and has a geometrical design on the sides that is hard to see in the pictures. The carriage also has the original strap used to secure the baby during rides. This would be just beautiful as home décor. Or to use as a prop in baby photos! Just a gorgeous original piece!
