It was found at an estate sale of a local antique dealer who may have added the newer upholstery. The carriage body with its fanciful curvy lines is constructed of woven wicker with a turned wood handle. Everything else is metal. The metal wheels with hard rubber rims work quite smoothly. Pictured in the ... more5th photo above is a mechanism behind the seat that controls the raising and lowering of the foot rest and seat back. There is also a parasol holder with a screw to hold it in place. Dimensions are about 40" long for the carriage with the foot rest extended and 36” with the foot rest folded back x 19" wide carriage and 24” wheel to wheel width x 36-3/4" tall(including handle) All four wheels have a diameter is 14” It weighs about 30 pounds. This buggy is in original condition with the exception of the newer upholstered side cushions. Those cushions need some attention as they are a bit loose fitting. The wicker is quite good with only a few broken reeds in the woven bottom seat along with some minor surface soiling. A slight warp to the foot rest can be seen in the photo above. Please check all photos carefully. And let me know if you want more. There is also surface oxidation and rust on the metal parts and paint loss on the handle. But certainly very good. I can find no holes in the wicker, but there are some very small spots of worn or chipped paint(does not appear to be re-painted) and I can see a small section(1/2 inch) of missing braided trim on the footrest(check photo close-up) Top works well, wheels turn well, and it seems to be quite sturdy all around. Looks like the interior lining is missing(as seen in first pic) but these can be easily re-lined by an experienced doll collector/restorer. The top has two handles that allow the top to be lowered to allow the sun to shine in. The inside is padded. But does show vintage signs of age. There are no rips or tears in the black canvas, but there was an original repair done in one spot. Measures 32" long x 16" wide x 29" tall This carriage is made of brown woven wicker. There are some areas where the pieces are broken. It has a steel frame with a wooden handle that has a lot of rust due to it's age. There is rubber on the steel rimmed wooden spoke wheels, the rubber has a lot of wear. The top of the carriage has 2 small round windows with lace covering. The inside of the carriage is very clean. There is a board on the bottom lined with cream colored linen with attached eyelet. The Basket itself is done in a warm wood hue and features a moth- almost butterfly or dragonfly- design. The convertible top appears to the casual observer to be made from a waxed black fabric or oil cloth. Antique 1900's Victorian baby carriage / stroller - Geo W. Travers, NYC
You are looking at a Victorian era antique wicker baby stroller by Geo W. Travers of New York City. I'm not sure exactly what year this was made. However after doing some internet research, it seems that it's from the early 1900's. I purchased this lovely piece at a Victorian antique store in Belvidere, New Jersey about 14 years ago. Years ago, it was once painted and the paint was removed some time after that as you can see from the detail in the photos. The bottom lifts up as you can see between photo 1 and photo 2. Everything is all original and I have done nothing to this piece as to not affect the antique value of it. The wheels are green with black rubber on them. Slightly worn but not badly at all. This auction is for two antique/ vintage tricycle. Pedal car, toy car or baby carriage wheels with tires. Obviously. I do not know what they fit. I’ve acquired antique pedal car. Tractor and etc parts from an estate. The tire diameter of is approx 5 inches. With a width of ¾ inches. The wheel diameter is approx. 3 3/8 inches. There is some surface rust in spots and scrapes in the paint. There are no markings on the tires to indicate make. Here’s the weird part; they have different diameter axle holes with one at.318. Or 5/16 inches and the other at ½ inch. Possibly one is a front and the other a rear? Please contact seller with any questions prior to bidding.
