The interior of the carriage was professionally retrofitted by a designer's upholsterer about 25 years ago. It is lined in a blue cotton fabric with a white pindot pattern and finished with self-cording and an eyelet ruffle trim. The mattress and pillow were also custom made at that time. The fabric. Trim, and cording are in very good to excellent condition. We did not find any tears or stains and only a few stray threads that can be easily snipped off. There is some slight fading in some areas of the fabric but it is not very noticeable and would not show if the carriage was used to display dolls or plush animals, for example. The previous owners actually used this family heirloom when their children were babies and it is functional. When not out for a head-turning stroll. The carriage served as a bassinet-on-wheels for a napping newborn. Afterwards it was used to display antique teddy bears in the family's home. Personally, we do not know if this item meets with current safety standards but it probably does not and we do not recommend using it except for display. The seat itself is still in tact, I just want to mention it is weathering.it is a thin type of wood or wicker and is raising(weathering) It is not broken or cracked, however there is a small gap on one side~which you can see in the one pic(zoom in) and it will be the left side of your view. It looks as though that was the way it was made~to me. The thin black tires are worn down in spots, revealing the wire/metal that makes the wheel. The back of the buggy/carriage folds down(shown in picture) the front foot resting raises as well. In pausing to check over the buggy, to ensure the description is to the best of my ability~I have just discovered that the buggy folds up entirely.as if you are folding a stroller. Since I cannot add another picture without deleting one~if you are interested in this item, I will gladly send the picture of it folded to your email. The handle to push the buggy is weathered. It due to it's age naturally has the fading or rubbed down spots of the wood, markings, a couple slight cracks(not open) The wicker on the sides of this item, has only a couple little pieces of wicker missing(in two spots& they are not big) It's a beautiful piece, however keep in mind that it's still fragile. It's no longer crisp fresh wicker/wood. The coloring is fading/weathering throught the whole buggy~naturally giving it, it's antique unique look. These two items are as they were for years~together. Stunning Heywood Wakefield Wicker Baby Crib. I used this for both of my children. There is some chipping to the paint in a few areas and some damage to the wicker. Mostly at the foot if the crib. Good condition over all. The paint would be easy to repair. I am selling it complete with the mattress, bumper, and three different sets if sheets that I made. I will say that with the shorter sides I wouldn't recommend this crib for babies over 7 months. From what I could find the name"HEYWOOD" was changed to HEYWOOD-WAKEFIELD after many years. The design of this clean print plate seems to indicate that the 3 people are in a furniture store and they are shopping for this wicker item as the little girls sits inside the wicker piece. I purchased this in 1975 from a New York family who was moving to Hawaii and couldn't take it with them. It had been in their family for two generations of children. I used it for my own daughter in 1986 then she kept dolls and stuffed animals in it for a few years then I covered it and stored in a dry attic ever since. This would look great in a girl's room. In a foyer, near a fireplace, etc. It could also be a great way to display dolls for a doll collector. It could also be featured in an antiques store where it is sure to attract attention! See attached photos. It is wicker painted white with tan brocade upholstery. The brake works and the wheels ... moreroll fine. The wooden handle has a nice patina with worn spots from people's hands over the years. The hardware looks original except for two nuts and two bolts that attach the bonnet of the carriage to the main part. The bonnet's height can be adjusted. The brass plate says HEYWOOD WAKEFIELD and there is a storage compartment underneath it with a sliding wooden"door. Of course. There are some minor scrapes here and there on the wicker. For its 100 year old age, I would label it in excellent condition. Local pickup ONLY. I simply can't imagine shipping this! This copper top engraved design(over lead plate) came off a wood print block. It came that way-I didnt not remove it. It is an old"HEYWOOD" advertising item that shows the name"HEYWOOD Trade Mark" along with a wicker baby pull/push stroller. From what I could find the name"HEYWOOD" was changed to HEYWOOD-WAKEFIELD after many years. The design of this clean print plate seems to indicate that the 3 people are in a furniture store and they are shopping for this wicker item as the little girls sits inside the wicker piece. A very cute design to mount in a frame especially if you collect wicker. Authentic Antique Heywood-Wakefield Wicker Rattan Baby Carriage/Buggy- A WOW'ER!
H-W(Heywood-Wakefield) Wicker Baby Buggy with fully functional features! For your consideration. A beautiful& authentic Heywood-Wakefield wicker rattan baby carriage buggy. The buggy is in very good shape- being all original materials. Wicker body, metal framing, wood handle and spokes. The carriage has many notable features that are all in great working order: A thick wooden push handle with original paint A metal brake activation lever on the right side just below the push handle. This lever locks in the braking position when pushed all the way down- probably one of the first to have this feature. A metal lever on the left side. Towards the back and bottom of the wicker body, that controls the position of the foot end of the buggy. This lever locks into 2 positions- as can be seen in the photos. The back rest can be locked into 3 different ... morepositions with a spring loaded pull metal knob on the top of the back rest. The top canopy that provides the baby shade/blocking the light can be adjusted back and forth along 2 metal runners and can be position up or down on a pivot that has large wing nuts to tighten to secure. The mechanics for these adjustment are on the back of the top sides of the main body. Wooden spoked wheels with hub caps that had or have"H-W" painted on them- most of this has worn away but one is in pretty good and readable condition. All 4 wheels can easily be removed and be re-inserted by using a spring loaded button on the axle by each wheel. A pretty cool feature. Rubber wheels- the rubber was cracking in many places but was complete on all wheels- to help secure and protect the original rubber I filled the cracks and uneven places with black silicone. The silicone could be easily removed if so desired. The Heywood Bros. was one of the first companies in the mid-1870's to make baby carriages from rattan and reed. In 1883. Antique Heywood-Wakefield wicker stroller uncommon style
Item you are bidding on is an antique Heywood-Wakefield wicker child's stroller in good condition. On top of stroller cover is one area where the wicker is coming apart that measures approx. 1" x 3/4" Overall measurements are a follows: 40"H x 46"L x 24"W. This stroller was made more for a bigger child. Because of the way it is constructed. This type of stroller is less common than the baby buggy. It has an adjustable footrest, moveable cover, quick release tires, wooden handle, and an emergency brake. We are not sure of the exact year of manufacture, but Heywood Bros and Wakefield Co. became Heywood Wakefield Co. in 1921, so it would have been made after that. The paperback catalog has 238 pages with wonderful illustrations on almost every page. Note the pink discount coupon tucked in the title page. The book measures approximately 5 3/4" x 8 3/4" x 1/2" thick. This item is in Very Good Vintage Condition. Cover edges and corners have only minor distress and wear. The cloth covered spine shows a little more edge wear. As seen in one of the photos. Shown in another photo, the book center pages open flat, separating pages, and showing the spine, however, all pages still hold tight to the binding. Antique wicker baby pram-buggy circa 1930 made in USA. Tan with 12" wooden ten spoke wheels with hard rubber tires. Interior lined with tan colored corduroy. Frame is made of steel. Basket is supported on spring suspension and there is hand brake lever on the handle. Dimensions of buggy 18" wide x 35" long; 28" tall or 43" with top up. Antique Lloyd's Baby Buggy with very rare swivel. This is in good condition for the age. All parts seem to be there and all parts seem to be working. The original interior lining and cushion are there. It rolls well, and the breaks are working. The top shade part of the stroller adjust well and the interior of the stroller has three positions to adjust so the baby can lay flat. Vintage circa 1920 Heywood-Wakefield Baby Buggy
Probably early 1920’s. This original wicker baby buggy is a true find! Original glass windows are still intact. Original rubber tires and wooden spokes have brake to keep carriage from rolling. There is a small tear on the bonnet of the carriage between the wicker and fabric. Wicker is in great shape and has a geometrical design on the sides that is hard to see in the pictures. The carriage also has the original strap used to secure the baby during rides. This would be just beautiful as home décor. Or to use as a prop in baby photos! Just a gorgeous original piece!
