ANCIENT BURMESE STANDING BUDDHA,.
ANCIENT STANDING BUDDHA. BURMESE. Materials: Bronze and silver inlaid. Pagan. Burma, circa 11th– 13th- century A.D. This is an extraordinary standing Pagan Buddha with untouched patina from several centuries. Silver inlaid eyes and usnisha and remains of red lacquer. His left hand holds the ribbon used to tie up the veil, and the right hand is in abbhaya mudra. The gesture of protection and benediction. The head presents an ushnisha(the cranial protuberance) crowned by the almond-shaped cintamani. Two elongated. Asymmetrical linear shapes appear on the back of the sculpture; they probably represent the transparency of the veil between the arms and the body. This representation ... moreof Buddha comes from Indian models of the Pala dynasty that originated in neighbouring Bengal from the 8th century A.D. onwards an were transmitted to Burma through the sculptures brought by monks, pilgrims and dealers that visited the sacred places of Buddhism in India. Black, gold, green, Carved/etched with knife, Very detailed, Measures approx. 23" x 15" w/3/4" rail, Pan-Yun or lacquer art is one of the highest forms of art in Myanmar(Burma) It requires great skill on the part of the artist. Black lacquer is the most commonly used. But an orange lacquer normally called red lacquer is also used. Both come from the sap of the Melanorrohea Usitata tree, a tropical hardwood. The artist ... morebegins with a bamboo or(rarely) He then coats with a layer of lacquer mixed with ashes and leaves and leaves it in a cellar to dry. He repeats this until there are five layers and then two layers of pure lacquer. When it is time to add color the artist scratches out designs in very fine lines with a knife. He rubs the areas with colorant and lets it set for several days then wipes the colorant off. The lines are left with colorant in them. He continues until all areas are colored. He then polishes the piece with talcum powder to remove resins and shine the item. The results are what you see in the pictures. For your consideration is this beautifully detailed vintage/antique Burmese lacquer tray. Our consignor purchased this in the 1980's in Taiwan. It has areas that have been repainted with newer paint/lacquer to cover issues. There is a crack on one corner of the tray and small chips of lacquer on the border of the picture. No visible issues with the art surface of the tray. Please see pictures for more details and check shipping charges before buying. Thank you! Mb. PAYMENT Forms of Payment: We accept PayPal. Opium Weight set, Bermese Opium Weights, Doctor's Office Display, Antique Drugs
Up for sale is a SET of antique BURMESE OPIUM WEIGHTS pro-mounted in a hardwood Oak Shadowbox with hanger on back. Can be wall-hung OR display in setting position. I purchased these from an estate sale of a Doctor friend. They were on display in his office. His wife told me that they purchased them from a professional collector. They then had them mounted in this hand built box with glass cover by DECK THE WALLS frame shop in Lynchburg Va. She thinks the frame-work cost almost $100. She couldn't remember what they paid for the weights at the time but she thought it was about $125 to $175 for the pair. I have found the larger bird on ebay for over $130 alone-I think. The small ones seem to range from $30 to $50 each. Keep in mind that these are framed for display. I have never owned these before and am not a pro. Please see pictures and ... moreask questions before bidding. Oak frame display with glass cover is about 9" x 9" x 2 3/8" in size. The paper on the back has a couple of stains as pictured. The birds are about 2 1/2" and 1" tall measuring thru the glass. The TEXT is also under glass and matted as pictured. It tells what these are and dates the use of them from 1200 to 1850. USA SALES ONLY. Shipping is set at $10 insured. This will make a great antique collector gift or DR-office display. Very nice set-BID TODAY. Thanks

Rare Antique Burma / Burmese Sword Dao / Dha Silver mounts No Reserve
The Dao was the national sword of the Naga tribe of Burma. They were fierce warriors and head hunters. This one is a classic example in fine antique condition. The hilt has a red painted or dyed wood or Bamboo root grip. At the blade end there is a heavy silver ferrule. The pommel which looks like bone but is the more expensive natural materiel has a nice age patina. On top. See photo, is an inlaid" cross" design which is outlined in brass. The maker took a lot of time to put this in this extra ornamentation. The flared straight single edged blade is hand-forged with a gray patina and a squared tip. One side near the tip has some age pitting. This blade is still fairly sharp. The are several good honest edge nicks and some cuts on the back also. This sword was used in battle. No scabbard being primarily of rattan it is long gone. ... moreI would place this as circa 1880. The overall length is 24" with a 17 3/4" blade. A scarce ethnic sword at no reserve. Vintage~Antique Burmese Teak Wood/Wooden Marionette/Puppet Lot of 2! With Stands
These guys are awesome! We bought them because we thought they were great. But we just have too much stuff! We didn't really know a lot about them, but the stands they were on still have partial tags(they must have been for sale in an antique store or vintage consignment or something) On the pieces of the tags that are left you can see where it had the words"Teak, Burmese, and"Marionette/Puppet" at one time- this is how we found out a few things about them. We know they are old, the darker guy looks older, and you can see in the pics where he has wear to his face and he has some wear to his clothing. The marionette in the brighter red is a little over 14" inches tall and the marionette with the pointy hat is a little over 16" inches tall. Any questions. Please ask before bidding/buying. Four priests point to the four directions of the compass and appear to be sitting on an open lotus blossom. There is great detail on their dress. Even their shoes. Their faces are fixed in a peaceful expression, hands folded and pointing up in typical prayer position. They are wearing the high tiered hats seen so often in Siam and countries ... morenearby. I believe they may be Buddhist as Buddha is depicted differently than China and India. At one time Burma kept Indian captives after defeating them in battle and their influence is apparent. I am not sure what type of wood it is. It seems sturdy enough and has a lovely reddish cast which does not appear to be from staining. The lamp stands 31" to the top of the harp. It does not have a finial. I think I would find some unusual one, a piece of mineral or a wood carving would be perfect. The lamp works perfectly. The plug appears to be from the 50's. I do not know how old the lamp but I think this plug was not the original wiring. It is certainly an unusual piece. Email me with any questions and thanks for shopping with me. The shade is not included with the lamp. I used it to deflect the light down on the figures. I accept pay-pal only and ship within the USA. for more great items! I accept pay-pal only.
