Japanese Embroidery Silk Tapestry Meiji Tigers
c1890.22"x35"framed,brown and gold silk embroidery
Antique Fukagawa Sei Meiji Morning Glory Scalloped Plate Dish Cobalt & Gilt
An extremely fine Japanese porcelain plate from Fukagawa Sei. Dating to the Meiji period, late 19 th to early 20 th century. This exquisite dish has a fluted and scalloped rim. And is hand decorated with an Aesthetic period tapestry of pink and yellow morning glories with blue leaves on a cobalt blue ground. The flowers, leaves, and background are all high-lighted in gold. The sides(underneath) of the dish/bowl are further embellished with stylized prunus blossoms in orange on blue branches. The plate is signed with the Mt. Fuji mark and kanji which. I am told, dates it to the Meiji period. Size: 9-3/4" diameter. Condition: Very good vintage condition. There are NO chips or cracks. The enamel decoration shows wear from utensils and perhaps stacking. There is one area where it appears the decoration was repainted- the gold on that leaf ... moreis not so fine. And the edge shows a white paint which was perhaps a primer coat for the touch-up. The underneath is all original so it is clear that it was not a repair of a chip, but rather of the enamel only- it may have been scraped off previously by a plate hanger. This area is shown in the photo. Please see my other listings for more beautiful Fukagawa porcelain items! The(Not so) Fine Print. JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD SILVER IRIS BUCKET MINIATURE
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD SILVER IRIS BUCKET MINIATURE Presented is a wonderful little Japanese silver miniature bucket made in the late Meiji period. This piece is extraordinarily well made. It was likely done by the Japanese silversmith. Samurai Shokai, one of the finest makers of high quality silverwork anywhere in the world. The outside of the bucket is ornamented with intricate applied irises or another similar type of flowers. The flowers are very realistically rendered in tremendous detail. This bucket was made in Japan probably between 1895 and 1910. The bucket is marked on the underside with Japanese character marks. This piece is made of high purity silver. We guarantee it to be at least 900 purity silver. But it is very likely 950 purity silver or higher. There ... moreare a few little dents and dings to the exterior of the piece. But this is fairly minor. The bucket also has a little bit of lacquer residue on it, particularly on the underside. This can be taken off if you wish. This piece could certainly be polished quite a bit more, but we will leave that to someone else. Otherwise, the condition is excellent. There are a few small minor dents. There are no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs. The bucket measures 1 3/8 inches in diameter at the base and 2 1/2 inches tall. The weight is 30.5 grams or 1.1 ounces. Good luck and bid with confidence. For the American Bidder Shipping including insurance is FREE to your USA address. We will ship by UPS Ground. JAPANESE HANGING SCROLL: Antique "Crane & Rising Sun"by Koshun, c1900,late Meiji
JAPANESE HANGING SCROLL: Antique"Crane& Rising Sun" by Koshun. C.1900, late Meiji If you set your monitor at FULL SCREEN from TOOLS you will be better able to view the photos This is a magnificent Japanese Hanging Scroll with a painting on silk by the artist. Koshun, who was active int he late Meiji period. he moat likely made this painting around 1900. It could be earlier, but I do not think it is much later. I believe that the elegant mounting is original to the painting. Koshun has given us a masterful representation of a crane flying against the blazing sphere of the rising sun. Which is still partially obscured by mist. The subtle bands of mist across the sun are painted with gold metallic paint, which do not show up well in the pictures. Photo number 13 is a detail which shows the effect as well as I could capture it, ... morebut it is much better in the painting than in the photo. Fo r the Japanese. The crane( Tsuru) is considered a national treasure. Appearing in art, literature and folklore. They regard the crane as a symbol of good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. And since the crane keeps the same mate for its entire life, it has also become a symbol and an augury for successful and happy union of two people. For many of these reasons, cranes figure largely as motifs for gifts and celebrations surrounding the new year, marriages, anniversaries and almost any other occasion when one would desire to express good wishes. This scroll would make an excellent gift. I particularly admire Koshun's closely observed representation of the Crane in which he manages to create a wonderful pattern of black and white with the terrific burst of color in the Crane's head. And. At least to my eye, the turning of the feathers in the Crane's left wing is a tour de force of the best kind of transubstantiation of a thing of nature into a work of art. It is a magnificent painting. This scroll measures 84 inches long and 21 1/2 inches wide. Not including the roller en

1891 JAPAN MEIJI 24 SILVER 1 YEN WITH CHOPS
Y#A25.3. 1891 Japan Meiji 24 silver one yen. XF with two Chinese chops. During this period there was a coin shortage in China so silver dollar size coins were imported from several countries and at that time Chinese merchants would strike a chopmark to guarantee that the coins were good silver. However. The coins primarily used during this period were Mexican 8 Reales, French Indo-China Piastres, British Trade Dollars, and U.S. trade dollars. Not many Japanese silver one yen coins entered this trade in China so this piece must be considered somewhat scarce—and certainly very interesting. Shipping in the United States is $3.75 and includes insurance. All overseas bidders please email for shipping charges. If these methods of payment are not acceptable please contact us.
